Need movie rental ideas please
I'm in between netflixes and need to actually go to the store and rent a couple of movies to watch at my boring job. Last time I did this I ended up with "The Upside of Anger," which was awful. I'm tired of wasting my money on bad movies!

I just want something GOOD. Don't care what year or genre. Please help me in this dire emergency.

Thanks!

7. It's not boring?
I saw that, but for some reason the word "corporation" naturally turns me off. :-)

14. No, it's not boring.
It's made in the style of Michael Moore, actually. That's what I thought when I saw it. People being interviewed, sure (including MM). But a lot of nice visual stuff...and humor.

"The Corporation" is not boring at all. A very good film.

17. They're VERY entertaining!
My husband's Pakistani, and we watch them all the time. Lots of singing and dancing, beautiful clothes, sappy love stories (boy meets girl, boy loses girl, boy gets girl back after parents give in). I love them!

for an interesting look at undocumented workers in London, very interesting movie, not a documentary.

Or, a decent romantic comedy, Next Stop Wonderland.

20. Silver City...
I finally saw it a few weeks back (released last year). Chris Cooper does a pretty fair imitation of Shrub. Not to give away the plot, but it's thinly-veiled satire on the Bushies.

38. if you can find "Return of the Secaucus 7", watch it
Edited on Fri Aug-12-05 04:07 PM by Kire
it looks like a student film from the 70's, but it is so well done. one of Sayles' first (could be a student film of his), you'll recognize some folks but you won't believe how young they are, it's about a group of very liberal friends who reunite many years after some peace protest in the 60's. They're close to 30 now, but they had a lot of fun.

22. Eulogy: GENUINELY funny. Infinity: poigniant.
Edited on Fri Aug-12-05 01:12 PM by Tyler Durden
Eulogy starts out as the typical "Dad dies and the family gathers," but it goes WAY extreme from there. Excellent casting.

Infinity is the story of the relationship between Physicist Richard Feynmann and his wife Arline who died in her 20's. Based on two books. Very touching. Excellent casting as well.

23. Well what kind of movies do you like.
2 movies I saw recently that I really liked were:

The Life Aquatic with Steve Zisou

This movie is a bizarre take on a would be Jaques Cousteau-like character who is in a state of decline and his attempts to revenge his lifeling from who was eaten by a "Jaguar" shark.

another one is In Good Company which has an excellent cast and some good performances and a nice message. It's about the relationship between an aging Ad executive and the young hotshot who becomes his boss. It may be a little slow but I did not think it was boring.

If you like animation try Spirited Away. This is the highest grossing film in Japanese movie history. It is hard to really explain what it is about but it appeals to more then just kids.

For classis I would recommend some of the following - Laura by Alfred Hitchcock (Best picture 1940 I think), The Big Sleep - Excellent film noir.

And if you want to go for something obscure try renting the first season of the TV sitcom Arrested Development.

Another real good obscure movie is called the A Simple Plan by Joel and Etan Coen its from 1998.

27. Just rented "Network" - 1976... I hadn't seen it in 20 years.
It's holding up well.

My favorite movies include:

8 1/2 - Fellini
Lady from Shanghai - Welles
(Imagine Orson fit and handsome enough to be married to Rita Hayworth!)

More recently:

Get ready for release of The Brothers Grimm with a Terry Gilliam film festival:

Time Bandits
Brazil
12 Monkeys

Any of these would offer you a decent evening's entertainment.

37. Best Movie You've Never Seen
The Loved One

Robert Morse, Johnathon Winters, John Gielgud, Rod Steiger, Paul Williams.

It's the most obscure classic film I know of. It's hilarious. It's set in a funeral parlor. An English guy comes to LA LA Land to take care of his uncle's funeral. But it's turns out to be a very complex arrangement. Plus, there's so much more... There's lots of poling fun at Hollywood and American sensitivities (pet cemeteries, etc.). You get to see Rod Steiger (Joyboy) sing his little lobster song and do his little lobster dance. And Johnathon Winters is photographed without any restraints whatsoever, very rare for him. You can see why he's such a god to Robin Williams.
