Tonight I talked with 3 homeless men |
|
who were watching the eclipse near the place where I'd parked my car during my gig. I chatted and watched with them a moment. I mentioned what I'd heard about the harmonic concordance, and it seemed to give them a kind of relief to think about something other than their misfortune. I dunno...maybe they thought I was daffy for talking about stars and the moon when they had to try to figure out how they were going to keep from freezing overnight.
I asked them if they had a place to stay, because it was getting bitter outside, and they said "No Ma'am". I felt terrible for them, and apologized for having no money to offer. Then I gave one of them an old rag blanket that I keep in the back of my car for the kids, apologizing once again because it wasn't clean, and it was in lousy shape.
They thanked me profusely, and you know what they did? They gave that blanket to another man who'd been curled up at the entrance of a church trying to stay warm with newspapers.
Oh my god, I felt like Santa Claus or something, because he came hobbling down to my car with the blanket held up high and a huge smile on his face, saying "Thank you! Thank you, Ma'am!" All I could say was "Thank you, Sir..." and I drove away.
Is there any greater gift than being appreciated for the littlest thing?

Must feel nice.
A plane flew right in front of the eclipse when I was watching it.

3. That must've been a sight! |
|
The moon would've been fairly low in Minnesota, no?

Very easy to fell which way is North just by looking at the position of the sun or moon and approximating the time of day.

Giving them whatever you could but not half as much as being treated like human beings worthy of notice and respect. That's the gift they will remember for a long time to come.

either ignore/dismiss or are actually nasty to the homeless. It's disgusting. How many here are 1 or 2 paychecks away from being homeless? How many here are 1 long hospitalization away from being homeless?
'There but for fortune' and 'walk a mile in my shoes' each come to mind.
However, I hope everyone will give ALL human beings the attention and the notice we all deserve.
And, certainly, thanks to the original poster on this thread for what you did.

6. You're a beautiful person.... |

Where do you live? It was odd for me to think (while I gazed at the eclipse) of exactly how many people were looking at the same thing I was. This earth, and inhabitants, are a miraculous thing.
Socialism for the homeless... not for Pfizer!

10. I was in DC at the time... |

I'd just gotten finished with a wedding gig, and was walking to my car a couple of blocks from the White House.
Dumbya should take a walk around his neighborhood sometime.

After months of cloudless skies and drought, it of course rains today. Too many clouds no eclipse for us to see.

12. I'm sorry you missed it, but |

I'm glad you got some rain!
A little over a year ago, we were in the middle of a drought. I'll never complain about rain again.
