Random pictures from the ET Awful saved pictures collection
I don't remember the whole story that goes with these, I just remember that the dog and fawn were the best of friends :)

4. It was on DU some months ago,
but I'm truly sorry to hear that it had a sad ending.

It was an "abandoned" fawn, with the mother probably done in by a hunter or a motorist. A woman found it huddled under her porch, trying to take shelter from the weather. She brought it into the house where her dog immediately 'adopted' it and mothered it. Can you tell us what happened afterwards?

5. If this was the same story
I thought it was that the woman found the fawn out in her front yard and thought it was abandoned. She took it in and it lived fine for a few days, but then died. If I remember correctly, the fawn wasn't really abandoned. The animal control said that sometimes the mother will leave for a while and come back, but the woman didn't know that.
It might be a different story, but I am pretty sure this one was it.

6. That's almost certainly the same story.
The initial group of pictures included the fawn huddled under the porch, trying to keep out of the rain. I'm surprised at that statement by the animal control people, but presumably they know their business.

Granted that a picture of a fawn is guaranteed to get past the emotional defences of almost anyone, and a picture of a maternal dog caring for it is even more so. Still, I'm saddened. I'm also surprised that Karl Rove didn't have Dubya issue an appropriate statement on that fawn.

I also have a vague recollection of that dog being a frustrated mother who immediately 'adopted' that poor fawn,
