My 8yo has been wearing a peace bracelet to school
Which is cool. She knows her mind and she ain't afraid to share it. ;) It's pretty funny though. My hubby is military and has been deployed twice since the war started. We figure if anyone has the right to protest the war, it's the kid of a soldier. We live in a really pro-war area though and I'm waiting for the fallout. Looking forward to it in fact. We just started a new school year, and I haven't initiated these teachers yet lol. Am I evil? Am I? Please tell me I am. It's probably awful, but I do so look forward getting to shove my "political agenda" down their throats lol. :D :sigh: I've really earned myself a reputation at this school, so I bet I won't get the chance this year. What a bummer.

3. We have the craziest school schedule here
They get out in May and go back in Aug. Two weeks off in Oct, 3 weeks for Xmas, 2 weeks spring, and every holiday any bank ever dreamed up. They call it year round school. :eyes: They go a lot less than I did, and we had 3 month summers.

6. What's crazy about that?
We do that in Texas too, if it makes you feel better.

11. Oh I hate it lol
and I don't work. I know a lot of parents who have a real hard time managing all the off days thrown into the school calendar.

15. Oh my
My district would do that if they could, but the legislature passed a law last year that says they can't start before Aug 5. The whole planned schedule had to be changed lol. Usually they started right around the 1st. This year was the 8th.

19. Yep.
And we only get 2 weeks at christmas and 1 week in spring for any kind of 'vacation'.

I am so glad my kids are grown up and finally all gone.

2. You are evil, if evil is the ability to think and speak for yourself and
raising your daughter to do the same. Good for you.

4. I have one of those, too.
I think he was one of two or three Kerry supporters in his entire grade (5th) during the elections last year. He would come home and tell me about the debates he had gotten into with the other kids. THey were trying to tell him really ridiculous stuff (Kerry is a baby killer, etc.) and he always stood his ground.

My friends say I should move to a more progressive area. Screw that. I'm sticking it out here and, like you, I'm more than happy to fight for what I believe in. I'm glad that my son has gottne the opportunity to think for himself and learn to have the courage to express his opinions, even when they aren't popular.

Hey there FSC. I got your email earlier. I'm planning on replying... hopefully before the end of the month. LOL.

Hope you guys are doing well.

10. Good for him!
My kids took a lot of grief during the elections last year, but they stood their ground too.

I'm not going anywhere either. I hate it here (my family is about 300 miles north), but my kids are truly entrenched in this town, and we're staying lol. I figure eventually the idiots will come around.

17. LOL- in 1960 when I was in 5th grade I had an argument on the school bus
about 'Apes vs. Adam & Eve': who are our ancestors? I said "apes", a Catholic boy said "Adam & Eve". He said "maybe yourancestors are apes!". The funny thing was, a few years later my brother gave me a photo of a baby baboon from National Geographic that looked like it could be the younger sibling of that kid. Kinda like this-

And now that argument fires up again...(every 35-40 years?)! Here's an old cartoon from 1925 to show to your kids!:
