Floridians, what were you doing a year ago? |
|
I know many folks from Tampa were evacuated here to Orlando, only to get hit by the storm they were trying to avoid.
Charley was a nasty one!

1. Oh man, I don't want to relive that one for a long time. |
|
Although I must say red wine really helps take off the edge. We had been waiting all day for it to hit, and by 8:30 were pretty mellowed out :)

I can't believe it will be a year tomorrow. I understand Punta Gorda is still pretty messed up from the storm.

12. You must have, very close to the airport |
|
I was visiting a friend about 2 weeks after the storm, and missed her street off of Lk Margaret. All the downed trees made the area look totally different. I had been to her house about 15 times before that.
It was amazing, and sad.

Which is probably where you were.

About 5 hours before it hit (Tarpon Springs area). We did the only thing we could do. Stock up on liquor.

4. I remember watching the newcast where they talked of the turn |
|
It was the guy on WFTV. He said it's coming here, folks!
I stayed at my parent's house that night, they live closeby. It started really getting windy at about 840. 910 is when the worst part hit, and they lost power. Strange thing was, I live a mile away from them. After it went over, I went home to see the damage, which was worse than by my folk's house. I think a small tornado spawned, because there was a swath in the trees. Parking lot was flooded. Somehow, the power was on, though. I live very close to Universal Studios, and I must be on the same grid. Somehow through 3 hurricanes last year I never lost it. I was lucky.

Got slam dunked by that one as well as Frances and Jeanne. There's still a lot of blue roofs around here.

No, just joking. I was, however, glued to my TV trying to decide what to do. Last year's hurricane season was HELL ON EARTH here in Orlando.
