So, I started this weight loss blog today....
Just a quick post to encourage you all to check out my new blog, which was inspired by fellow DU'er Longhorn, who linked the blog of a 600 pound man who's eating better and cycling his way to better health. After spending some time reading through it with my wife, she has encouraged me to start my own blog. So, here's the one that gave me the idea:

http://mikabike.blogspot.com/

And here's my new baby:

Check 'em out and pass 'em on!

5. Thank you!
I figure if Mike can do it, I can. My goal isn't to compete with him, but I really want to see our combined efforts inspire other people to regain their health. There IS a horrible epidemic of obesity in this country and it needs to be brought under control, the sooner the better. This is just my little personal contribution. :)

6. That's my hope.
I am afraid that maybe I'm putting too much pressure on myself, but I don't know if that's a grounded hypothesis. I actually feel a lot more positive having made the commitment.

14. I understand your plight I really do...
Edited on Sat Aug-13-05 12:17 AM by auntAgonist
And I'm here ANYTIME you need to chat, or scream :)
I tried everything humanly possible with the help of Dr's etc to lose weight and it didn't work. I'd lose, then gain then lose then gain even more. I was eating 800 calories a day and still not losing. I opted for weightloss surgery as you might know already. It's not an easy route out by any means. Since my surgery date March 15th this year, i've lost 96lbs. I feel human again, I have energy, and I can eat good food and not get sick!

'nuff about me...

you keep up the good work on the 'giant*' task at hand!!!

*pun intentional

16. 'Nuff about you? Naaaaaaaahh!!
I'm such a wordy, long-winded person once I really get going that I would hate to plow over everyone else with my sheer word volume. I'll always be here for you too. Unless they cut off all my fingers and take my computer away before sending me to Detention Camp #402/b for my treasonous liberal philosophy. :P

At any rate, it's only the first inning of many, so time will tell. My mindset feels right, so if I can keep focus and not forget what I need to do, this could be the one!!

4. Firstly ...
Congrats on the blog AND the efforts for health ...

Secondly: I am a big fan (pardon the pun) of Gentle Giant, and recently downloaded some of their MP3's ... free ....

I thought you might like the link, so that you might share it with others, so THEY could understand why you enjoy Gentle Giant ....

http://www.progarchives.com/Progressive_rock_discography_BAND.asp?band_id=118

There are MANY Prog Rock MP3's there, like Yes; Close To The Edge (The entire 18 minute piece), Starship Troopers, Live Heart Of The Sunrise, ... some Genesis; The Cage, The Musical Box, Watcher Of The Skies, ... And King Crimson; 21st Century Schizoid Man, The Court Of The Crimson King ... etc etc .... just dig around, there is lots there ...

I hadnt heard Gentle Giant's "Experience" in at least 20 years, and it was SO great to download it and hear it again ... what an amazing piece ....

Anyways, sorry to hijack this threadL I am trying to change to a more healthful lifestyle through re-inventing my food choices and becoming active. I have lost about 40 pounds this year, and I feel great for that .... I look forward to reading AND learning from you and Mike as you battle back to health ....

Prison Sex .... LMFAO .... I had to laugh about that ....

Anyways: good luck AND enjoy the Prog Rock links ....

If you had not yet listened to Experience then PLEASE do : http://www.progarchives.com/mp3/GENTLE%20GIANT%20-%20In%20A%20Glass%20House%20-%204.%20Experience.mp3

Again: Good Luck ...

8. I own every Gentle Giant studio album.
Edited on Fri Aug-12-05 11:20 PM by Gentle Giant
I don't have any of the live stuff, but I should still have a BBC sessions CD somewhere, which is kinda live I guess but not an actual road show.

I'm an absolute prog rock freak. Have been since I was 13 and Yes appealed to the masses with "Owner of a Lonely Heart". From there I bought the whole Yes catalog going backwards, and then using the ordering catalog in the record store I cross-indexed the band members and the other groups they've been in. From there it snowballed into a CD buying obsession. I have over 400 titles right now, and that's after having a good many of them stolen back in 2003. I'd love to talk prog with you anytime.

Don't sweat "hijacking" the thread, Trajan. You simply put the focus on one of my favorite subjects and I myself never want to shut up about it. :D

And yeah, Prison Sex is a very fitting analogy when you combine very large person with standard bike seat. Sad but true. I had a seat for a number of years that I called my "Park Bench" because it was literally over a foot across. It finally gave up the ghost a few months ago, so I replaced it with a big comfy gel seat from a company called Serfas. That, new pedals and the occasional rear axle hub are all I ever wear out on this bike of mine, even with the weight I'm forcing it to carry. I really can't complain.

Edited for grammar.

15. Thank you, BTFS (for short)
Sorry, it's getting late and that screen name is awesome but it's beyond my current level of comprehension. Ain't insomnia fun?

To help someone else is definitely my primary goal in doing this. Like I said already, the attention makes me a bit skittish even though I deeply appreciate every single encouraging post I get. I really need to succeed this time, and for more than just ego. I believe that if I can't get it right soon, I'm not going to live to see 40, let alone 50. Or 70. Or 100. Or....

I'm thinking about installing my new cycling computer and going out for a test ride. If I can survive the 2 blocks to the UNLV campus without getting run over by a drunk or a taxi, I'll be in great shape. It's down to a heavenly 83 degrees right now, so I might as well take advantage. :)
