Are there any whitewater boaters here on DU? |
|
I'm one! Are you? If so, where do you live? Where have you/do you paddled/paddle? I think it would be fun to compile a list of DU paddlers. It might be nice to get a group together for networking on river advocacy and political issues benefiting the whitewater community. Not to mention getting together to paddle on occasion! If you'd be interested let me know.
I myself am a kayaker of about a class 4/5 level. I enjoy play boating, creeking and river running. I live on the Western South Dakota/Eastern Wyoming border, in the Black Hills. I boat here in the Black Hills, the Wyoming Big Horns and the Northern US Rockies, mostly. Look forward to hearing from you!

I'm a canoe paddler if it gets me fishin'! I've fished a lot of the whitewater streams here in the last 50 years! I love the sights and sounds, the thrills and spills! WV Rivers.................................... http://wvweb.com/www/travel_recreation/whitewater/river2.html

i suppose it's the same difference between down hill skiing and cross country skiing. we have a two man inflatable kayak from "AIRE", the sea tiger, and my wife, myself, and our dog love it. lazy rivers, estuaries, lakes, and flat oceans. yum!

Her name is Lisa Sottasanti. Her folks own Shenandoah River Outfitters. I've boated a little there and in NC TN and KY as well. I love the Smokies....actually I like it better down there by you guys than up here. It's warm....funky humid...there's all sorts of neat insects running around and flora that just blows the mind. We do have some damn nice fishin up here in the Black Hills but its arid, a pine tree desert with mountains. If you ever come out this way, make sure you bring your rods (especially fly). If you like trout you can get yourself sick on em!!!
I started out in a canoe about 38 years ago. Well actually I started out in my dads old folboat. I still love canoeing and have a 17 foot Grumman boomalum. Funny...I remember back in the day, when that was the only "whiteater" canoe, made! Hehehehe. Deliverance.

I've been paddling since I was 8 years old (22 years ago). I grew up paddling on the Eiskanal in Augsburg, Germany which was only about 10 minutes from my home. While my friends were playing football after school, I was in my Prijon practicing Duffeks on the slalom course.
I've paddled Germany (Eiskanal, Salzach, Saalach, Loisach), Austria (Inn, Salzach), Washington (Skykomish, Green, Snohomish, Snoqualmie, Wenatchee), Idaho (Lochsa, Selway, Salmon), Missouri (St. Francis), and Utah (San Juan).
I currently own a Comp-weight Riot Glide and a Prankster. I am not big into park-and-play, I'm more of a river-run-and-player, if you know what I mean.
I now live in Virginia Beach where the only whitewater is of the ocean persuasion.
