It PAYS to clean your desk.. I just found $1200.00
Edited on Sat Aug-13-05 03:45 AM by SoCalDem
Almost 3 years ago, I "misplaced" it.. I knew it was around here somewhere..

anyhoo.. I decided that my current desk is not working for me, so I started cleaning out drawers that i haven't used in ages..

Found a bunch of old checkbook covers that needed tossing..Thankfully I looked in each before throwing into the trash.. The 4th one had 12 crisp Ben Franklins tucked away in it.:)

Love "found money" :)

Moral of the story..

Whoever cleans out my house when I die, had better look in every pocket, every envelope..

10. I did something like that once
I was a teenager and didn't have a checking account or anything like that. So I had about $400 saved up in a roll of $20's, but couldn't remember where the Hell I stashed it.

Months later it turned up... in the package of my Flight Simulator software (for the Commodore 64). I swear to God I never remembered hiding the money there.

12. Once, when I lived in a seedy part of town...
My apartment was broken into. I had a trunk full of books. I had stashed several hundred dollars in the books. The robbers stole the trunk.

I almost had a heart attack when I got home, since that was my rent money. Then I noticed that they had dumped all of the books out onto the floor.

LOL

Oh, and the robbers werw actually a couple of drag queens from down the street that I was friends with. I knew this because they were in there the day before talking about how much they liked the trunk. And I was still friends with them afterwards, too. The trunk wasn't worth losing friends over, but the rent money might have been. My landlord was crazy from untreated syphillis, so I already had enough problems as it was.

30. I did this recently, too -- hubby was cleaning out the car trunk,
and under the mat and tire, he found an envelope I had hidden there during a vacation trip last year (you know, put a bit of money and ID here and there, so if you're robbed of your wallets, you aren't totally broke?).

17 brand-new hundred-dollar bills. Can't believe I forgot about them, since I'm a real cheapskate. I do remember coming back from that vacation, looking in my wallet, and wondering, "gee, I didn't think I spent THAT much money..."

I am famous for stashing money in envelopes, and that the end of a bowling season, I purge my old records and throw a LOT of envelopes & records away..
I was actually thinking i had accidentally thrown it out.. So gald I didn;t :)

38. Lucky you....
After my Grandfather died I was sent to his apartment to remove whatever garbage was leftover there (otherwise the management would withhold the security deposit). All I found was a wooden coat hanger from Brown's Hotel (a once very world famous hotel in the Catskills. Opened for business in 1944. Sold for 5.3 million in 1988) and a dollar and fifty cents in quarters which paid for my bus fare on the way home.

39. Isn't 'found money' wonderful!
I go looking in all of my coat pockets when I need more money than what's in my wallet.

My dad used to let me keep all the money I found while doing the laundry ... way back when I was a little girl. It made the chore of washing clothes feel like it wasn't so bad after all.

50. I DID tear the place apart, but after NOT finding it, I just assumed
that I had accidentally tossed it into the trash with the loads of end-of-season envelopes & reports.

Instead of stressing, I just considered it gone,. and told myself that perhaps someone who REALLLLLLLY needed it would find it:)

My friend sold her truck for $1500, and the same day a friend repaid her the $1k they owed her.. She had $2500 in her pocket and after having it there all afternoon, she decided it would be safer in her purse.. They all went to dinner at ElTorito, and when she reached for her purse to pay the bill...you got it.. someone had stolen her purse..

Moral of story.. LEAVE things where they are..
