My cat is acting like an ANIMAL! |
|
I can't believe what my sweet, timid, mild-mannered, loving, snuggly, strictly-indoor little 16 year old kitty cat just did.
A squirrel came to my front door for his usual daily peanut handout. I opened the door, and Cindy went into a crouch like she suddenly thinks she's the panther queen of the jungle, and dashed out the front door and charged the squirrel and chased it up a tree.
I'm shocked! I didn't know she had it in her!

1. Well, first of all, she IS a panther queen of the jungle. |
|
Cats are so awesome. Of course she had it in her. I just wonder if the squirrels will come up to ask for peanuts tomorrow.

3. Yes, she must have genetic ancestral memories |
|
of bringing down mastodons. You can take the kitty out of the jungle, but you can't take the jungle outof the kitty. :)

6. *Puts on nerd glasses* Actually, I believe domestic cats... |

Are descended from wildcats, which can be found in remote parts of Europe and north Africa. They were first tamed by the ancient Egyptians. Wildcats are only a bit bigger than domestic cats, too small to bring down anything larger than, well, a squirrel. They make scary screaming noises instead of meowing.

2. It is amazing when they act on instinct like that, isn't it? |
|
Our dog, Jessie, thought she was going to protect us from the evil that is squirrel once...until the squirrel charged her, and she ran screaming back to the house. Now the squirrels point and laugh at her, while she contents herself with defending us from the evil that is the electric garage door. :hi:

7. LMAO . . . your story leaves a hilarious visual :) |
|
I can picture it in my mind, complete with the squirrel shaking it's paw and chattering at her as she runs for cover :)

8. It's printed in their DNA |

Plato was the size of a softball, and he came nose to nose with Marble after escaping from the kitten quarantine room. He went into the full display: ears back, big tail, mohawk, spit, hiss, boing boing boing sideways, everything. Marlbe just looked at him like "wow, it's the size of a mouse, but it sure acts like a cat...!" She left him alone, I picked him up, and it took 10 minutes for his heartbeat to slow down. It was the most amazing thing I'd ever seen.
