Wow, what a film, and it definitely deserved its Oscar . . .
Just finished watching "Born Into Brothels", the documentary about kids born to the prostitutes in Calcutta's red light district.

WOW. Excellent and very much worth watching. I HIGHLY recommend this one.

1. Then you'll probably want to see this...
Smithsonian Magazine's article on photos by the same kids:

4. Thanks for the link :)
The kids were unbelievable in this film, it's amazing how outgoing and cheerful they are considering their environment.

And I'll tell you what, I thought I could be foul mouthed at times, but I don't hold a candle to a pissed off Calcutta hooker yelling at her neighbors. I mean DAMN.

2. Is it on video or dvd? Or was it on television?
I would be interested in viewing it. I read about it prior to the Academy Awards, and I was impressed by the determination of the filmmaker to document the lives of these women and children.

3. It's available through Netflix . . . but the DVD appears to be
manufactured especially for them since the Netflix logo is on the label of the DVD and on the DVD menu.

I'm not sure where else it's available to be honest.

8. Basically it's a lady that went there to photograph them and the kids
were fascinated by her and hounded her with questions, so she gave them all cameras and started teaching them photography. From there she got really involved in their lives and made it a bit of a personal mission to get them out of that environment and help them get into schools, get educated, etc.

Very good story, some happy, some sad, but all worthwhile.
