kd lang's voice is sublime.
The CBC is rebroadcasting her concert with the Winnipeg Philharmonic, and it's breath-taking.

I don't usually go for "modern" versions of torch classics, but give me kd lang and Marianne Faithfull, and I'm one happy camper.

2. She truly has a fabulous voice.
Her newest CD, "hymns of the 49th parallel", where k.d covers songs from people like Leonard Cohen, Joni Mitchell and other Canadian songwriters, is superb. Get it if you haven't yet.

3. I saw her on a Barbara Walters interview when she started getting famous
The scene was her playing pool in her basement, and during the interview she suddenly started singing "Crazy".

Holy shit, I hate to say it, but she blew Patsy's rendition right out of the water.

4. Why?
Why insult Ms. Lang by stating that she is lower than a piece of fruit?

:o

5. When Tony Bennett say's "she's the daughter I never had"...
...well, kinda' say's it all, doesn't it?

And Marianne Faithfull? Jeez. I saw her at The Commodore in Vancouver last year doing her Kurt Weil/torch tour. She had me sobbing like a little boy cub every tune...I'm an ageing punk in my early 40's; I like to think I still have a bit of a thick skin, but I found myself making "excuses" that night with my date: "um, no, there's something making my eyes tear", having to "go the bathroom" during certain tunes, etc.

I could barely handle it. And it felt good, worth every penny...
