Hilarious fundie argument against evolution!
...The Book of Genesis tells us that everything was created by God—nothing "evolved." Every creature was given the ability to reproduce after its own kind as is stated ten times in Genesis. Dogs do not produce cats. Neither do cats and dogs have a common ancestry. Dogs began as dogs and are still dogs. They vary in species from Chihuahuas to Saint Bernards, but you will not find a "dat" or a "cog" (part cat/dog) throughout God’s creation.

1. Bet he thinks the Bible has always been
written in English, or that Hebrew translates directly to English without any ambiguity at all. I told a "Christian" woman that Jesus called God "Allaha", which is God's name in Aramaic, and she became unglued!

2. Thanks for that tidbit.
I've always compared "Allah" to "Adonai" and "Elohim" in Hebrew. But of course Aramaic was the ancient street language, so that is probably a better example.

Shalom, y'all!

Adonai and Elohim as well as Allah, for it is all One.

8. Hey, I have a question...
I took an Islamic history class last year in college, but the topic was mostly political and not theological. About the only thing we covered in that area was the difference between a Sunni and a Shiite. One of my Muslim classmates told me that "Allah" came from the old Arabic word for deity which was "Ilah". In old Arabic evidently that word was used for any of their pantheon.

When Mohamed started preaching about the one true God, he said "Al Ilah", or *the* God to draw distinction between God and all the other deities. Then that later became contracted to "Allah". Is that right? Where linguistics and religion meet is always interesting territory. I'm kinda sad we didn't get into that more in class.

13. I don't really know
being a convert to Sufism, the mystical sect of Islam. I know that "Allah" means "Unity".

27. Yes. That is correct.
"Ilah" is Arabic for "god" or "deity." The Islamic shahada (sp?) is "La ilaha il Allah, Muhammad rassul Allah!" or "No god but God and Muhammad is God's prophet"

cf:

la - no
ilah - god
il - but, except
Allah - God, Allah
Muhammad - Muhammad
rassul - prophet

I've been doing a lot of research into historical linguistics and Indo-European mythology, and it's simply fascinating stuff. How we talk about think really shapes our worldview. Even the sounds we use change things.

23. My best friend, the fundie,
had a tattoo put on her neck of a butterfly and the word Adhonai. I love her dearly, but I think it looks like crap, and only pushes her further down the irreversible path to fanaticism. I'm sure she has issues with my agnosticism/atheism, but at least I don't putting a very public symbol of my beliefs in a very public place.

9. The biggest Bible-thumpers know absolutely nothing
about the Bible.

They know what is IN the Bible.

But, they don't know that the Bible is a collection of chapters, written by different writers at different times.

They don't understand that someone or some group arbitrarily decided centuries ago which chapters to include in the Bible and which chapters would be discarded.

They don't understand that chapters in the Old Testament were written several hundred years earlier than chapters in the New Testament.

They don't understand that passages and scriptures in the Bible have been changed and edited over the centuries to support whichever status quo was in power.

18. Hell, they hardly know what's IN the bible either..
They think they know what's in the bible, but it's really just what someone has told them is in there. I'm willing to bet that most of what they've read directly from the bible are specific verses and chapters, cherrypicked by those who wish to manipulate them...

5. The real proof of evolution - or disproof of intelligent design
the prostate encircles the urethra - so that any infection, swelling, or malignancy shuts off the flow of urine.

No intelligent design would design it that way.

20. But what if God WANTED it that way?
Hmmm? Didja' think of that?

In fact, since creating a life threatening situation by having the flow of urine shut down at the slightest sign of infection, swelling, or malignancy of the prostate is such a counter-intuitive design, there must be a VERY IMPORTANT reason for it to do so. A reason MORE IMPORTANT THAN LIFE ITSELF! The answer is clear, the prostate must be the home of YOUR IMMORTAL SOUL!

10. You cannot argue with a Bible literalist.
They believe the Bible is the inerrant, unfailing Word Of God. They also believe the Bible to be the correct historical account.

They leave no room for multiple translations over two thousand years, the fact that the books were written by humans (divine inspiration aside), the fact that humans interpret the words differently, and the idea that the stories are full of symbols, allegory, and simplistic illustrations of events that the masses could grasp.

Any suggestion that there is more than one way to read or view the Bible is considered heresy.

You'll find lots of dogs, and lots of dats, but you won't find a dag or a dot!

22. (facepalm)
That dumbshit needs to crack a book sometime. Cats and dogs do have a common, but very distant ancestor, a weasel-like creature. I'm unable to recall the name off the top of my head, but I believe it dates back to the Miocene period.

Bloody damn fundies...

24. With every new "argument" against evolution and for
creationism (I.D.) I wish I was from outside of this country so I can laugh and not feel bad. It is deeply troubling how serious this attack on science and reason is and may soon affect education in this country.

28. "Dogs began as dogs and are still dogs."
No, dogs began as wolves and evolved into dogs. Leave it to a fundie to screw up a scientific argument. And throwing the Bible as "evidence" into any debate on evolution is as effective as using Wells' The Time Machine as evidence in a debate on the scientific possibility of time travel.
