Zep....
Ok, I have my flame retardant suit on but....Isn't Led Zeppelin one of the most over-ratted bands of all time?...They needed a singer who sand like a guy I think..
Video on now, so I thought I would post. Fire away..LOL

1. Never saw them live...
but recordings of their live sound sucks.
Could be bad recording... but given the more recent Plant/Page live performances, I'm thinking this wasn't the case.
They sound *much* better in the studio.

I never had a problem with Plants vocals per se, loved his early solo work, just that he doesn't seem able to pull off the Zep studio vocals live.
As opposed to say, Aerosmith, where Steven Tyler actually does hit the high notes and sing it like the album.
I'm not really this picky, but I hate lazy singers or poseur singes who only sound "good" with studio processing ala Brittney.

Since I don't rate them very high up my list of "all time greats", I don't consider them overrated.
As songwriters, Plant/Page are really pretty good.

I've always thought the rhythm section was vastly *underrated*, truth be told.

3. Will say..
I do think highly of Jones and Bonham, and as for songwriting...put on Muddy Waters and you get to hear 90% of Zeppelins tunes..I was blown away when Waters' estated took them to court for ripping off "Whole lotta love" and the estate lost! If you ever get a chance, listen to "You need love" by Muddy...

4. Robert Plant is one of the best rock vocalists of all time!
Bonzo - pure power on the drums. JP Jones - talented on bass, keyboards, or any other instrument he picked up. Page - innovative as Hell in the studio, although sometimes sloppy on stage.

Zeppelin deserve their place in rock n roll hierarchy. Now having said that, I DO think there are radio stations who play entirely too much of a band that broke up 23 years ago. I have all of their albums and so do the majority of the people listening to those radio stations.

But then, given the choice of Zeppelin or Limp Dickzit, can you blame them for playing the old stuff??
