Walmart MUST be Satanic! It's the ONLY pop-up that gets through. |
|
OMFG, it only happens one or two times per internet session but how? Nothing else get's through, nothing. I'm running Mozilla and Zone Alarm and they stop everything else except Walmart...
How do they do it?
This is my prove of Satan. I'm no longer a Materialist, there must be evil supernatural forces fucking with my computer...

I'm using Firebird (if you use Mozilla you should give it a try!) and it stops all unrequested popup ads. Which is nice since sometimes you need to see a popup when you click on something (like, say, clicking on a thumbnail image to see the high resolution version).
But there's a tricky way around this. Web authors can use an onMouseOver javascript event to open a new window too. That means if you hover your mouse over just about anything, text, images, tables, the whole document even, you can cause a popup to open, even in Mozilla because, see, you requested it.
I've never seen a WalMart ad popup before. And the way web ads work the individual advertiser usually can't dictate such things of the site they are advertising on. But who knows? Next time it happens you should view the source to see how they're doing it.
Also, it could be java. I always have java turned OFF and I have NEVER ever once missed it.
Course, it could always be satan too.

2. Mozilla Firebird? I should have been more specific, that's what I'm using. |
|
Haven't had any problems with thumbnail popups at all. None.
It's only Walmart...

8. I think it's okay to do this ... |
|
Here's code that defeats Mozilla's popup blocker. I'm curious whether something like the Google toolbar stops it.
This should be harmless to post. The forum doesn't allow HTML code, so I hope it's okay. You can paste this into a text file and open it in your browser to see what it does:
<html> <head> <script language="JavaScript"> function DisplayWin () { var Win = window.open("","adWin","HEIGHT=100,WIDTH=400") Win.document.write("<font size=+4>Viagra!</font>") Win.document.close() Win.focus() } </script> </head> <body onMouseOver="DisplayWin()"> <p>Some harmless text here</p> </body> </html>
Sneaky bastards.

3. So, if this is proof of Satan |
|
can God be far behind. If the WalMart popups disappear, does that mean God exists? :-)

5. Well of course. One that's too weak, or doesn't care, to prevent... |
|
...the Walmart pop-ups in the first place.
It matters not if it smites the evil one's pop-up. The damage has already been done...

6. But I thought God was all-seeing, all-powerful |
|
How could you not be protected from the evil one? Maybe God doesn't really love you. I have never seen a WalMart popup ad, meaning God obviously loves me more than you. :P
