6. The Gourds and Sally Timms do an awesome version of that
live; it's never been released, but you can find it on Soulseek...

3. Shane McGowan -
the baritone version of fingernails on the blackboard. Maybe a chair scraping on the floor?

5. Drunkest band I've ever seen live.
I honestly thought a couple of them weren't going to make it to the end.

I loved the SNL performance. Some buffoon decided it would be a great idea to book The Pogues to play Saturday Night Live on St. Patrick's day. Apparently the nitwit new nothing of the band.

For the first song Shane stumbled out onto the stage with a drink in his hand and lurched all over the stage in a desperate attempt to win his ongoing battle with gravity. He mumbled his way through a barely coherent version of "White City."

Then there was a stretch of time when the band was not on camera during which something horrible appears to have happened.

As the band took the stage for the second musical number it became very clear that MacGowen had lost his valiant struggle against gravity. He propelled himself to the edge of the stage and sat down with his feet dangling over the edge, somehow managing to keep the majority of his beverage in the glass. He stayed there for the rest of the song.

The band played "Body." I'm not sure what song Shane sang. Not an intelligible word escaped his lips. His feet may have recognized the song, because he sang it to them.

God, I love The Pogues....

12. Damn...I was going to add "and not brush my teeth!"
I saw a documentary on IFC a while back. I think Shane MacGowan only has a couple of teeth left.

13. Essential reading for Pogues fans:
The Pogues: The Lost Decade by Ann Scanlon. Read it here and see if you can figure out why Shane MacGowan ain't dead.

Males: see if you don't fall in LOVE with bass player Cait O'Riordan.
