slideshow creator - software question

I'm in the middle of scanning in a gazillion old slides of the family

and I'm looking for a fairly inexpensive slideshow maker program (preferably FREE) -- I need the "end product" able to be written to a CD and playable on the computer as well as a DVD-player

I have a cd writer drive -- but I don't have a DVD-writer and don't anticipate getting one in the near future....

it would be nice if I could add some music and other effects to the slideshow but this is not critical

any suggestions?

I think you might be out of luck in the DVD department. I use a Mac so I don't really know what I am talking about. And http://www.doom9.org/ is good for this shit.

2. I use Photoshow

It isn't free, but it has a lot of nice effects. You can put together a pretty nice slide show without a lot of difficulty. I made a CD that I can play on my DVD player. You can check it out at this link.
