so I just went to the gas station. . . |
|
in my dinkytown. $2.72 per gallon for regular. I say as I always say, "Aren't you really glad we invaded Iraq?"
I always get somewhat humorous responses. The guy behind the counter said, "I work here and I can't afford it. I'm riding my bike." A girl at the pump laughed and said, "Yeah right." I said, "well, I'm not." We were all smiling though.
Consider trying that line sometime. You may just get some rather interesting responses.

1. So what are we going to DO about it? |
|
I know the truckers might be doing some sort of strike (there was a story in LBN a few days ago) but seems like most folks are going gee, it's expensive, that sucks.
Oh well.
Anyone see the Mets game/see Dukes of Hazzard/whatever?
:grr:
I guess most people don't think there's anything we can do. Probably about right. :(

tax revolt is the only recourse as I see it.
Read the Declaration of Independance and see how similar the complaints of the colonists against the Madness of King George are similar to our current circumstances. It's astounding.
Not that balanced budgets matter to these bozo's. Every time you hear "tax and spend Democrat" consider responding with, "What you prefer loot and waste."
These people are far beyond accountability. It's disgusting.

I reckon it'll hit 5 bucks per gallon soon and sure, that's what it is in Europe, but they get health care included.
We get squat except for tax breaks for the oil companies and higher and higher prices.
Yikes.

11. In my view, unless you're racing, it's just another sub-culture jerkoff |
|
Edited on Sun Aug-14-05 03:00 PM by jpgray
Or so my mechanic friends tell me. Some people even put higher-octane stuff like airplane fuels in their motorcycles and such for racing, but if you're just commuting to work or getting groceries I don't see the point. Unless your car is pinging with a lower octane or designed with a high octane in mind.

12. I need the cleaner gaslone for the high-efficiency turbo engine |
|
But lets for a moment pretend you do know something about my driving habits. And that I didn't have to point out that while my car has been above 140 mph, it hasn't gone faster than 70 in years. Or that I squeeze out over 30 mpg EVERY SINGLE TANK.
And I haven't had to refuel my car since June 20, because I walk to work and the store, and lump my trips together when I do make them.
But if you want to call it a sub-culture jerkoff, that's you're right. It doesn't actually make you right, however.

13. Unless your engine is so high-efficiency the 87 explodes too early |
|
Edited on Sun Aug-14-05 03:12 PM by jpgray
I don't know what you drive or how you drive, but people who put 93 in an engine that does fine with 87 are wasting their money.

8. It's $3.70 a gallon for us! (98 cents per litre) |
|
I WISH our gas prices were as low as yours down south! Yours is roughly the equivalent of 69 cents per litre for us...geez, my memory doesn't go back that far... :eyes:

14. I could be wrong..... |
|
but I was not aware that the tax on petrol covers any national health costs. I lived in the UK for 3+ years and had a certain amount per month taken out of my paycheck for national health. If I am wrong - hopefully some DUer from the UK will give us the true scoop!! National health is the only way to go here. We're the only "civilized" western country without national health. It's a disgrace. :o
