I think he had a vocal range comparable to a good Tenor, and he was gifted with a natural operatic technique. I'm sorry I never got the chance to see him perform live.

No wonder my mother-in-law fell in love with him (when she was in her 60s, after his death.)
Before that she was only into opera and classical.

It's a shame he had to die so young.Too many good, talented people don't live long enough. I was watching a special last night about Elvis. I think he was the BEST....but he had to die young too.Such a waste....and it takes good music away from us with their deaths. At least we can play all the old songs they made. I miss all the great singers that are now gone.

3. The rare combination of being a great singer AND a great frontman. |
|
Usually you get one or the other or a lesser combination. He was great at both.

4. I'd always enjoyed some Queen songs and considered them a good fun band |
|
but the best use ever for a Queen song was "Can't Stop Me Now" in the British zombie spoof film "Shaun of the Dead."

that he was actually Egyptian.
I always respected Queen for their stated policy of "no synthesizers."
On edit: And he can't be replaced. This new "Queen" with the new singer may be OK (I haven't heard them yet), but they're not Queen.

He was fantastic. I cannot imagine Queen without him.
He wrote "Bohemian Rhapsody", "Somebody to Love" & "We Are the Champions"
Queen did so many great songs..

He was Parsi, a generally light-skinned religious community in India.
He was a fantastic singer, indeed.

7. I'm just listening to, "Killer Queen" the tribute CD.. It's very good.. |
|
Constantine and Jason Mraz both sound a lot like Freddie. There are some other good tracks by the other tribute artists. It's worth a listen to see how the treatment of Queen material by today's young artists.

8. One of my favorite albums... |
|
...is the three-disc Queen's Greatest Hits set. It's fucking great, with the first disc being their early radio hits, the second disc their later work (which I actually prefer), and the third rarities and oddities.
I miss Mercury even more with the sorry state of music today.
