How did you spend your day?
Edited on Sun Aug-14-05 09:40 PM by tinfoilinfor2005
We took our house (the boat we live on) out into the Florida Bay and cooked hot dogs and drank beer and swam around in the bay for hours with many good friends. We watched some large thunder clouds, anvil type, way out in the distance, and they were filled with lightning, but we never heard any thunder. And we all remarked that we could definitely feel a difference in the breezes...the tropical heat has given way to a cooler northern breeze.

It was a heavenly day. Hope yours was great too!

1. I got up at noon
and did my workout for the day. Two mile walk around an indoor track at the YMCA. Then I came home and laid down for a 2 hour nap. Then I got up and went over to my folks house for a spaghetti dinner. My grandma, sister, brother-in-law, niece, mom, and dad were all there. After dinner I stretched out and took another nap at my folks house. Then I woke up and talked to everybody for a while before coming home. I've been DUing and listening to baseball ever since.

4. Are all those naps
the reason you're called Droopy?

10. Hey, that's as good a reason as any
I actually feel different now than I did 2.5 years ago when I first signed up. Back then I was not a happy camper. Hence Droopy. I wanted to change my screen name during amnesty last year but several people didn't want me to change it so I kept it the same.

13. I envy you the naps, by the way;
wish I could get that many myself.

I know it's good for you to doze now and again throughout the day.

5. Went to a movie with a friend - then snuck into another one ....
watched the previews and then left. I've always wanted to see whether or not they were watching.
As you can probably tell - my life is a bit on the boring side right now. Your day sounded really nice.

6. Had breakfast at Linda's Tavern in Seattle (Pine St., Cap Hill)
Edited on Sun Aug-14-05 09:54 PM by swag
with a lot of friends, half from Portland, half from Seattle. We were all recovering from the same party last night.

Later named the breakfast the "Portland/Seattle Summit." The party last night was great, but in some ways the breakfast was better. Anyway, deepened some old and new friendships and had a great time.

Then we (SO and I) drove back to Portland. Sad to see the aftermath of one possibly lethal accident on the northbound side of the freeway involving a motorcyclist. A woman in a car not far from the destroyed motorcycle was sobbing hysterically as police talked with her.

There was so much aggressive driving. It's hard to understand why more people don't try a little harder to mitigate their own risks while driving, especially if the alternative will get them to Portland only 10 minutes faster, or leave them or someone else seriously maimed or worse. Well, what ever. It's all nothing new.

Got home, relaxed, walked down the street and enjoyed some great Italian food. Home now. Happy enough, and waiting on the cool-down.

11. Went to a going away party
so I guess it was kind of bitter-sweet in that respect. But my friend is going away to study in London this semester so she had some friends and family over. Of course her mother cooked way too much food but we spent the afternoon reminiscing about high school and such, it was a fun afternoon. Then I went and got the title to a new used car signed over to me...all told it was a banner day

14. Enjoyed our cold snap
It was nearly 100 in Baltimore this week, and hot as hell when I got home Friday. It rained yesterday, and today it was zero humidity and about 75, with a nice breeze off the lake. So I had all the doors and windows open, cleaned, and read a new book, a Japanese novel. And grilled a primo steak with fresh corn and a legume salad. And napped. Very relaxing, since I have to leave for Vancouver Island on Wed morning and have two stories due before I go. Energy is restored.

17. I read to my son, and then took both kids for a hike at Washington
Crossing State Park here in New Jersey. It was hot and humid but we found some kind of Cicada, several kinds of worms (under rocks) and in a nice small stream some fish.

It was a hot in humid day, but the boys (6 and 10) enjoyed it I think.

Mom was working.

Later in the evening we watched Das Boot in German, and I tried to explain what the characters were saying and the history involved.

It was a wonderful day for Dad and sons, but we missed mom.

18. We told our almost four year old grandson that he could drive
the boat. And when he got here, he was wide eyed frightened because I think he had it in the back of his mind that he was really going to have to drive the boat (fourty two foot boat). When I finally told him that grandpa would drive and he could watch, he literally wiped his brow with relief. Aren't kids a trip? I bet your kids loved your hike...what a cool mom you are!!

21. Took our daughter to Como Park Zoo
In St Paul. It is a free zoo, but you pay by having to drive around for 45 minutes to find a place to park. We watched the polar bear swim, the orangutans swing, the lions pace, and the zebras just hangin' out.

We also rode the old State Fair Carrousel. All in all a very good day.

22. Today was a nice one...but VERY quiet....
Read the Sunday edition of the LA Times; always very good...

We went out to lunch at our local Olive Garden; I was evil and had the Chicken Alfredo...YUM!

I've been on DU almost continously since then...except for a lovely nap late in the afternoon...like I needed that!

I cooked a fairly elaborate dinner (for me), and then did the usual clean-up...

Watched a little CNN...no Jim Lehrer on weekends...

And here I am....happy as a clam! I'm listening to my husband who is downstairs playing "Cantaloupe Island"....it's lovely...

:hi:

24. I got off of work at 10am and went home
I'd been there barely 5 minutes and suddenly the smoke alarms began blaring. I ran about the house checking to see if there was a fire or smoke and found that there was none. Meanwhile the pets were going crazy--the cat was hiding under the futon, the bird was fluttering wildly in his cage and the chinchilla was cowering in her igloo within her cage. I ran to the garage to get the ladder so I could reach the alarm on the main level. After fanning at it and pushing the button it continued to blare. Finally I disconnected it and they both shut up. I replaced the battery in the unit and all was well.

I slept from roughly noon until 6:40pm. Then I got up, showered and got dressed. I had dinner, attended to the animals as I was pet sitting, then got my things together for work. Now here I am working for da man.

27. hockey game!
My team played today, we lost because we fell apart with 3 minutes left in the 3rd. I felt that we played much better than we usually do, we are starting to come around.

I also helped my father position a new woodburning stove in our basement. We picked it up yesterday (it was 100 degrees outside) so it was awful as it was just us and the damn thing weighs 500 lbs (not that I'm bragging that I'm some hulking macho man, work smart not hard).

I'm excited because we're remodeling (actually I'd say modeling, we never really fixed it when we built our house 16 years ago) our basement and we're adding the stove, a bar, and hopefully a ping pong table.

31. I did a nice job at work upgrading some systems and making some
swell deals for faster, more reliable service channels.

I smiled, made small-talk, had a nice lunch, propped myself up with some Earl Grey tea in the afternoon, persisted.

Received some new music in the mail, and have been enjoying that for a while now.

Oh, Drano'd tub.

which I hate.

I like lounging on the couch as much as the next person, but I've been here twelve hours. I want to get out and see the world. I don't want ice cream or shakes, which are basically the only things I'm allowed at this point. I want real food, which I can't have for at least to more days. All in all, not my best day.

Sorry for whining. I just needed somewhere to vent.
