The average American Idiot
Their thoughts on the war...Here's a little background first. I post at this General Hospital message board on MSN. I like to get Spoilers so I don't have to watch every day. Anyway, this lady came in and asked why our sons, daughters, family, etc are being killed over in Iraq. She asked for us to make some sense out of it for her and to help her come to terms with it. Then she says something about them bringing back the draft...Here's what one lady had to say about it, and she is exactly one of the freepers I hate to listen to...and then I ripped her apart. Here's the text.

*Let me start this off by saying you are not wrong as an American to feel that way Gracie. Thats what our brave men and women are over there fighting for, so you can have the freedom to feel the way you do.

That being said though, I dont agree with your thoughts. I enlisted in the Navy when I was in high school because most of my family had been in the Navy. I was excited and to this day feel that it was the best decision that I enlisted instead of going to college. It helped me grow as a person and tought me so many things that I would never have learned had I not enlisted. People can complain all they want about what the military gets paid but when you look at everything they get along with pay, free medical coverage, no copays or perscription fees, they dont have to pay rent or pay for food. When you add all of that in, by comparison, they are well compensated. I do not though feel that the military is the right choice for everyone. I think for some though it is an easy choice because untill now, it was an easy paycheck. There was no threat of war and a lot of people thought that they would go make some easy money for a couple years, go to college and get on with their lives. Unfortunatly though we are now paying the price for the freedom that we enjoy. No, those Iraqi people did not ask for our help but then again, they didnt have the voice or power to speak for themselves. You are incorrect that they do not want us over there. While many have stated that they do not want an extended US presence, they are grateful that we freed them of the terror they had to face each day in Sadaam. It is easy to say that our government is doing this for oil but that is not accurate. Bill Clinton had the chance to take out Sadaam when he was in office and he didnt. He (Sadaam) continued to rule his country with fear and aid terrorists that are out to hurt our country, citizens and our way of life. One of the top programs that he was researching was the much publishe weapons of mass destruction program. Why would he need these weapons? I will tell you why. He intended to continue killing his own people that opposed his regiem as well as sell them to terrorists to us against us. Are you willing to sit back, save a few lives and let that happen? Dont misunderstand me. I am not a war monger. I wish we didnt have to face losing some of our men and women over there or anywhere else for that matter. War is tragedy.
Let me help dispell this rumor, there is no draft!!! They havent brought it back, they dont plan to bring it back. I do know where the few people that have said this got this from. The ONLY talk of bringing anyone up was that they are discussing the call up of some reservists. In my eyes, if you enlist in the military, you should know that you have the chance of going to war, you are stupid if you dont know that. Those people made choices and they should stick by those choices. I have no sympathy for those people that are to much of a coward to defend the country I live in by enlisting and then complain about protecting my freedom and try to run from it. I feel deeply for those that have a family and are stuck over there for an extended period of time without being able to see the birth of a child or their babies first steps. I, on purpose, waited till I got out of the service to start a family but if I was needed today, I would go over there without complaint.
You call it a hell hole. Have you ever been to that part of the world? While it is a desert, it is a pretty place and it is someone elses home. That would be the same as me calling your location a hell whole and I dont even know where you live or anything about your town. We all have a duty to help defend our freedom in anyway we can. To some this may be helping to organize a welcome home party for returning troops or it may be that a father who is a reservist is called up to fight. This is our duty as Americans. You can talk all you want about the freedom to protest or the freedom to say no but just remember, everytime you hear about someone losing their life in Iraq, they were there defending your right to feel that way.

I thought you guys might enjoy that little piece of idiocy...Sorry it's so long.

1. Blaming Clinton? I can tell you who this !^@%#$ can blame:
GEORGE H W BUSH.

He is the sleaze-ass who didn't take out Saddam when he had the world' support.

He allowed Saddam to stay in power.

He and his amry folk allowed Saddam to keep weapons on helicopters, which in turn allowed Saddam to massacre his own people. There are numerous stories.

Like son, like father.

CLINTON IS GUILTY OF NOTHING. ANOTHER FUCKHEAD BUSH IS!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am so sick of the Clinton bashing on the part of these neanderthal thickheads... x( x( x( And I don't always like Clinton!

4. Here was the reply.
Ouch Sunny, let me help you pull your foot out of your mouth on this one. Maybe YOU should be doing a little bit more research and stop using YOUR source. I never watch Fox News. I am pretty sure I do more research for news on any given day than you do. Lets take the National Guard for example. They do not get 100% coverage because they are not active duty. Please point out for me where in my post I said anything abouy the National Guard. I was in the Navy for 81/2 and let me tell you this fact, active duty people have 100% of their medical expenses covered, thats a fact, not a myth. I can not speak for the Guard because I have never been a member but I think I am safe in saying that as long as they are on active duty, they are covered just the same. I can say this based on the fact that I have been there. Can you say the same or are you just taking the word of a friend who may not know everything related to the subject? Have you ever been in the service? I didnt think so.

Now lets talk about Halliburton. Let me once again point out how you are wrong (chalk another one up to your "sources"). How much do you know about these so called no bid contracts? Let me answer that one for you. You dont!!!! These so called no bid contracts are the same existing contract that Halliburton is working under in the Baltics. It is nothing new. Halliburton is contracted to the US millitary to give logistical support to the troops. This includes the transportation of oil. You talk about the price Halliburton is charging the Military to transport that oil, how much are they charging to store the oil or how much are they charging for the equipment or the people used to transport that oil? I can tell you, NOTHING because it is included in the price that you quoted. The number you even gave isnt even accurate, its around $1.85 that they are charging the government. That includes transportation, storage and other logistical means. They charge Iraq less because Iraq has its own facilities, so Halliburton does not have to refine it or store it, just transport, the US does not. Do you expect them to do it for free because they are a US based company? Of course not, they run a business and have 100,000 workers as well as stock holders to answer to and contrary to your comment, "the rest of the world" isnt being supplied the oil by Halliburton. Your comments really do sound like the same junk that CNN, CBS, NBC, and ABC say but yet you keep pointing to this whatreallyhapened.com web site. I have done a little bit of research about this belowved site of yours. Do you know who it is owned by? I didnt think so. I would tell you but I think you should do the research on your own. Lets just say that they may have a reason to shed doubt on anything related to the US. This is the last site I would trust for news, not to mention, I dont think I would take the word about US policies or intelligence from a foriegn news source that supports terrorism (IMO). I also dont think I would take the word of someone who refers to a flag waving American as an idiot. As far as the web sites are concerned, how do you know that what they say is right? Can you just give me one shred that anything they have to say can be backed up with some type of proof, other than another news source?

By the way, Bush declared victory back in May?? Where did you get this piece at? He declared and end to the major fighting, not the war. There was a real threat from Saddam byt he way. Have you heard any of the interviews from the Iraqi Scientists? do you recall the Nuclear/Bio weapons construction material found in those peoples back yards? How about when they said that Saddam was waiting for this to be over so he could get back to making WMD? This coming from his own people. Those very people that lived in fear of him for decades.

Yes I am a republican, and a proud one but when my party screws up, I can call it. I do not agree with everything Bush has done and there were some things that Clinton did that I agreed with. I do not have blind faith in my party. I think it takes all parties to run this country.

*And finally, I am a proud Halliburton employee.* I think I just might know a little bit more than you about the contracts that Halliburton has. I am also in a position to see this proof where you are not. I am privy to classified records that back up my comments. I did not get them from some backwater web site whose only purpose is to bring confusion about my government and the troops that are risking their lives for something I and many other people believe in.

Let me also bring up the point that there are Halliburton employees over there by choice, they were not forced to go over there. Some of these employees, my fellow coworkers, have lost their lives. I take a great deal of offense to your blithering comments about the company I work for when you dont even have anything of your own merit to add. Your comments are the same ones made by the same sources you quote so it isnt as if you are putting your own twist to it. "Dont believe the liberal media lie? I think you meant to say conservative based on the next sentence you gave. Further proof that you have no idea what you are talking about.

If YOU need anymore info, let me know and we'll talk but dont make assumptions or statements that you cant back up or prove.

I urge you to voice your own opinion, not those of people that have no idea what they are talking about. Nothing you said was new, all the major media outlets say the same thing you do, even the Fox company that you so overwhelmingly appear to hate. I do not pay much attention to the news because most times they arent telling the whole story. I do my own research and dont waste time on trivial web sites like the ones you are pushing off on people.

Any suggestions on a retort?
