File name for Favorites in IE 5.5? |
|
Sad story. I had a bunch of spyware infiltrate my IE. Shut it down. Not a bad thing in that I now use Opera and love it. However, I have some good favorites there that I want to recover. I can't find anything that looks like the favorites - ideas?

1. I think there's an option |
|
somewhere in the prefs menu that will allow you to import your IE favorites folder. It's been a while, though; I use the Avant Browser now.

2. IE creates 1k files for each favorite... they need to be exported. |

Each favorite is a 1/2kb file that is stored (in win2k/xp) in \documents and settings\username\favorites. (size can vary, I once say a 40kb favorite file!!!)
You need to use IE's favorites export feature to collect and export all the favorites into a bookmark.htm file that can be saved anywhere.
Which Windows OS are you using?

4. Location depends on version of Windohs that you're using |
|
XP locates them under your Documents and Settings in your account name folder. 9X locates them under the Favorites folder located at C:\Windows. All else fails, click Start, Click Search or Find (depending on your Windohs version) and type Favorites in the File or Folder box and click ok. Windows will locate it for you. ;>)
