NO WAY here. Yecch. Widescreen version of "The Caine Mutiny" at this household after "The Simpsons" (guilty pleasure). Great flick, haven't seen in years. It was the strawberries, you know. Those two made for sweeps month movies will no doubt deserve the raspberries. Disagree?

Have no desire to see the other two.

10. I've missed too much
of Carnivale. What I saw was good. I imagine they'll be a chance to catchup. HBO is pretty good about repeating their shows.

4. I like stupid trashy movies. I'll watch Exploiting Private Lynch tonight

and part 2 of America's Blondteen Obsession tomorrow.

I have no expectation or idea that either has doodle to do with reality, but I expect them both to be howlingly bad.

8. No. Will watch "The Office"
watching King of the Hill and The Simpsons, then The Office. What stupid TV movies. Who watches this junk? I did laugh at The Daily Show's analysis of the "Elizabeth Smart" and "Jessica Lynch" movies. I'm curious to see what the ratings will be.

Don't have cable (I think these are cable movies, but not sure). Anyway, we are taking my aunt and uncle out to dinner. After we get home, time for spongebob squarepants on dvd, which is probably more realistic.

I read a review in some magazine that basically bashed both movies for pretty much utilizing everything but the facts.

24. Long Haired, Bearded Alleged Kidnapper: Hippie? Jew? Arab? Democrat?
Nope: Mormon.

And not a mention of Mormonism throughout the whole film as I understand it, though it's key to why Elizabeth Smart wound up cooperating with her alleged kidnapper.

So-- the viewer is left to figure out who the weirdo alleged kidnapper is: Hippie? Jew? Arab? Bum? Leftist?

I'm curious to know how the religious ambiguity of the backstory might affect the casual viewer. Is the bearded guy a cipher that the casual viewer could project their particular prejudices and fears on?

The fact that the Mormonism is ignored is probably not news to any regular reader of this forum.

It's also interesting that they cast an actor in the role of Mr. Smart who's best known for his portrayal of a pedophile in Todd Solondz's "Happiness." What's up with that?

**************************
Reading over the above, I'm not quite sure what I'm getting at. Are you?

25. Yes. It's better if it is left open so people can assume he's a Muslim

and not get confused about Mormons, because the family are Mormon and there are people with some mixed feelings about Mormons, but if you just keep it focused on dark hair beard, women with cloth on heads, the subliminal message gets out and it can help maintain support for the Crusade.

27. Exactly!
Some might think our tinfoil hats a bit too tight but you express my point much more clearly:

"...if you just keep it focused on dark hair beard, women with cloth on heads, the subliminal message gets out and it can help maintain support for the Crusade."

Creepy how the writers and producers and editors work that stuff out.

Would this qualify as a McCluhanesque critical analysis?
