36 years ago today, somewhere close to a million people joined together

on a ranch in upstate New York for "2 days of peace, love and music". The count of attendees varies from source to source, but there were a hell of a lot of people, and a hell of a lack of violence.

Well I came upon a child of God
He was walking along the road
When I asked him, "where are you going?"
This he told me

I'm going down to Yasgur's farm
Gonna join a rock and roll band
I'm going to camp out on the land
And try and get my soul free

We are stardust
We are golden
And we've got to get ourselves back to the garden

Then can I walk beside you
I have come here to lose the smog
I feel like I'm a cog
In something turning

Well maybe it's the time of year
Or maybe it's the time of man
I don't know who I am
But life is for learning

We are stardust
We are golden
And we've got to get ourselves back to the garden

By the time I got to Woodstock
We were half a million strong
Everywhere there was song and celebration

I dreamed I saw the bombers
Riding shotgun in the sky
Turning into butterflies above our nation

We are stardust
We are golden
And we've got to get ourselves back to the garden

We are stardust
We are golden
And we've got to get ourselves back to the garden

3. Ah, the best of times...
and all those golden stardust children had children of their own who grew up to be Republicans and drive SUV's...."and they're all made out of ticky-tacky and they all look just the same." Damn dirty shame!

4. What a summer that was
The first moon landing and then Woodstock, those days when anything was possible. What a difference in the country since then.
