Do libraries loan out DVDs? |
|
If so, do you think they'd have Star Trek The Next Generation?
I want to see the episodes again, but I'm not spending $100 per season! (my boycott of TV is not utterly complete; just limited to certain shows only.)

Ask your librarian. If they don't have it at your local library, maybe they can get it on interlibrary loan.

and yes, ask about the interlibrary loan of anything the library doesn't have.
If your library doesn't have DVDs, it would probably be due to lack of funds more than anything.

I work at a library that lets out DVDs and CDs and whatnot, then in the computer labs we sell blank CDs and have burners on each computer. Pretty sweet for the patrons I'd say. However, I doubt you'll find STNG here. Recent titles are not in abundance. It don't hurt to ask though.

*snort*
Hollywood is afraid of P2P... well, I got news for them. Ready? Here goes....
"It's too damn slow to download a full length DVD quality from the P2P networks to make it worth my time!!! Stop saying that P2P is the bane of hollywood- it's NOT, and it WON'T be until we all get the equivalent of T1 connections in all our homes!
We can't easily share full-length feature films because they're too damn big, so stop saying it's costing you money, because it's NOT!!!!!"
There. I'm done ranting. I feel.... cleaner.
"Out, damned spot...."

connecting to?
Like, wow.
I want the final ep of "voyager". "Endgame", I think it's called. I saw it, and it's good, standalone. Even if you know nothing about ST: Voyager, the final ep is good science fiction.

I was speaking of the final episode specifically.
edit: FYI, when I said, "which network", I was thinking of servers, not connection type.

I miss Voyager. Janeway was the strongest female lead in Sci-Fi, hands down.
Aeryn, of Farscape, is a very close second.

21. I didn't much care for DS9. |
|
It tried to be Bab 5.... and wasn't.
Farscape, on the other hand.... wow.
Farscape is easily one of the best science fiction series ever aired.

If you're talking about Voyager, yes, I watched it every time it was on. Then I found Farscape... and lost interest in Voyager.
Farscape was MUCH more interesting than any Star Trek-based series I've ever seen. Period.
Farscape is, easily, better than Star Trek ever was. Too bad the series is over... I wanted to see Crighton return to Earth.

19. Janeway got off to a poor start... |
|
So did Sisko. Both of them have finally endeared themselves to me as strongly as Picard, however. Not a Kirk fan, though.

11. On itital viewing, "Endgame" is good. |
|
But on subsequent viewings, there are problems.
The biggies were about the temporal paradox with Janeway and the transwarp conduit and somehow they destroyed all the Borg at the end.
But it was entertaining and I can't complain because "Doctor Who" can be quite similar; it's fun to watch but there are occasional problems with the storyline's logic.

"all the Borg" at the end. All they did was destroy a major Borg outpost that had a transwarp hub which connected to the Alpha Quadrant.
I didn't see any actual causality violations in the final episode.

12. hehe... I work for USPS. |
|
Funny story. When Netflix started, I think they were using CDs and DVDs made of a stiffer plastic. The reason? Right around when Netflix was started, we had a spate of DVDs that shattered in our machinery.
Yup. For those of you not in the know, the USPS uses belt-driven automated equipment to sort the mail. Cds and DVDs are flexable enough to go through the machines. Well, when Netflix started, I think they were using stiffer DVDs than they are now, as we had several shatter in their mailing envelopes when they got sent through our machines.
We use Delivery Barcode Sorters, or DBCS's, manufactured by ElectroComm Automation.
Anyway, I found one that got shatered sitting in the reject stacker of one of these machines. It was funny... I shook the envelope, clearly a DVD by the labeling on the outside... and heard many, many little plastic pieces shaking around.
FYI, it's 'safe' to mail CDs and DVDs. If you're really concerned about it being put through the automated equipment, simply write 'DO NOT AUTOMATE' in big, bold letters on your envelope.
Problem solved. We who work in the postal plants see those things and immediately respond.
Also, for those of you who receive treasury checks of some kind every month... our plant has a policy that those checks do not get automated. The reason for this is that if the check gets shredded in the machine (which does easily happen), it's a bitch and a half to get it back from the Treasury Dept. in an undamaged form; i.e., a copy. So we just don't automate those.
