3. I can handle the nazi tat more than the harry potter bitch |
|
At least the Nazi tattoo just means she's bought into an evil idealogy.
The "Harry Potter is evil" one is clearly basing her life on a superstitious fantasy and a completely errant reading of the Bible, and giving all authority in her life to her pastor.

the way the Potter books work, there is usually a twist in that a bad guy like Sirius Black becomes a good guy. A bad-seeming guy like Snape is not the bad guy. The pet rat becomes a bad guy and so on. Maybe she just thinks that in the last book it will turn out that Harry Potter has been the bad guy all along. He really is evil.

6. There's a lot of fundie reviews out there |
|
and the fact that Harry has to figure out what's right and wrong in his own and his opinions are as valid as the opinions of the adults are the big sticking points.
That and they think the bible says not to read about witches.

and I wasn't going to push it with an obvious flaming fundie.
Knowing when to retreat is key.

8. So funny, the Harry Potter conundrum in churches |
|
Edited on Tue Aug-16-05 11:27 AM by Taverner
Fundie churches are saying it's evil, because it talks of sorcery and other fantasy elements. As if the Bible doesn't have any of this :eyes:
Other churches are embracing Harry Potter as an analogy (like many did with Star Wars) to demonstrate biblical concepts, and the book does have characters who are good and evil (a breath of fresh air for many Christians, who aren't happy with moral relativism.)

think Harry Potter is the bomb. One of them is currently studying at King's College in Cambridge where the movies were filmed.
They both HATE fundies, especially my queer pastor. Boy does she hate fundies. I started in on the fundies once and she was like "You can't POSSIBLY hate fundies more than I do."
