When you post a thread that lives....
Do you respond to every post? If you do, when do you cut off responding so as not to keep kicking a proverbial dead thread up to the top? I usually respond to every post for the first 6-8 hours...and then I let it fade away. I can't not respond to every post, because that would be rude. :hi:

1. Wow! You've had threads that lived?
(Actually, I do think I've had ONE since 2001, but I don't initiate threads often)

So, don't have an answer, and will probably kill your thread (when I go back to check for replies to my comments or additional comments, mine is nearly always the last one -- am I a thread killer?)

peace,
BQ

4. Only because I talk too much.
:hi: see you didn't kill this thread. Great job! You're only a thread killer in threads with non earnest OP's ;) :hi:

2. I try to reply to every post
Same as you, I feel rude ignoring anyone who bothers to reply to me. I don't know if other people find it annoying, but that's how I feel about it  As for how long? Well, until people stop replying! :)

7. I had a thread today that ended up being a hot topic.
I was happy about that. But in the end it was locked, such is life. I only try to respond to the posts that are asking a question or are way off base to what I was trying to convey.

12. Funny how that happens. We cannot seem to keep hot topics
alive without degenerating into a free for all. :hi:

8. I always try to reply to everyone,
but unfortunately the only threads of mine that live are the ones that are specifically designed as flamebait, and get appropriately locked.

9. It's a judgement call MrsG,
In the past I've created some threads that lived and involved people sharing farely intense information. I don't feel right leaving anyone's post unresponded to in that situation. Other times, as you say, there's a limit. I don't spend all that much time here during the days (gotta work, so appearances are rare) and I'll extend it two days if I've been reasonably absent and it looks like folks are interested in responding.

16. That's pretty much how I feel about it too. I don't like kicking up
threads that have sunk very far in a day or so. So then, OCD that I am, I try to find that person in a newer thread and respond to them there. :hi:

11. I'm with you, I respond to every post in my threads...well, I did until...
last night, when I started a "I'm going to bed, good night" thread.

But I do believe that that thread was an unusual case...I just wanted my late-night friends to know I was not going to be around at that point...

Otherwise, I do always respond to all posts...I think it's just common courtesy!

I don't think I've ever cut off responding...unless I don't see the poster's comment...and then if I discover that someone came along much later and I missed it, I feel awful!

Do unto others....

13. I try not to respond to too many
because the ones I DO respond to seem to fall off their perches in a heartbeat (or lack thereof).

18. Hi AussieDave!
I feel that way sometimes too. I don't respond to too many 100 or most post threads if I arrive late because everything pretty much has already been said. :hi:
