they're different -- which i appreciate.
the orsay is more evocative of the time span it looks at.
the louvre is just too big to be evocative -- but it's collection is simply awesome, mind boggling even.

I've never actually heard it referred to as "Orsay"; I thought perhaps you were speaking of another museum. I've always referred to it as Musée d'Orsay (I speak French), though I suppose in English that would be technically correct indeed.
No biggie. Hope you had a good good time...I just got back from four months there myself. (We have a place in Pau, in the Pyrenees on the French/Spanish border)
One question: Isn't Paris a little quiet right now? (which can be good). It's vacation time; even my partner's entire family is over here right now....

I'm so jealous. I am *STILL* stuck in this backward-ass southern redneck christian conservative state. Ak. Someday...... I'm a huge impressionist fan; thanks!

5. Worth a trip to Paris in itself |
|
I got up early one day and went without my family because they had a special Bugatti exhibit. The beauty of some of those paintings is nearly enough to make you cry.

I'm not very interested in Renaissance art. It's faux realism and starts to all look the same. I did like the statuary at the Louvre, but i thought Orsay was by far the more interesting museum.
Glad you had a good trip. The Professor

I knew the Musee d'Orsay was fabulous, because when it was undergoing some renovations a couple or 3 years ago, about 40 of the Impressionist works came to Fort Worth and lived in the Kimball Museum for several months. I just drooled over them.
I love Impressionists.
Lucky you. Did you go to Versailles? Is there a day trip to a chateau you could take?

I love your reports, too, you are getting me primed for my too-short visits- one day in August, 3 days in September.
