I'm still getting tomatoes and bell peppers from my mountain garden!
Who knew the growing season was so long up here? Well, tonight might be the shutdown of the garden. They are forecasting 27-degrees and heavy frost.

On the up-side, I got a cord+ of seasoned, split hardwood dumped in my driveway yesterday (nevermind I can't turn the car around until I move and stack the firewood). My wood-lady, a toothless hag with a man's voice, had promised delivery a month ago. I'd given up. I was just ready to call a guy in Rosman who has a load of firewood on a trailer ready for quick sale, when beautiful Brenda calls on Saturday morning and informs me she will be out with my firewood in an hour and that I'd damn sure better have $100 in cash, etc., etc. She and her man/father/brother/cuz (who knows) show up in a dilapidated old Chevy dump truck and scare the shit out of my dogs. The dumped the wood, and I did have five crisp Jackson's for the androgynous woodwoman (?).

Anyway, no panthers or bears in a couple of days. The dogs seem to be more careful. I'm spending about 12 hours a day painting the interior of the house. Slowly, carefully, and safely. My 5-week broken toe still hurts like hell, so I'm not going to fall off a ladder or any thing like that right now.

1. Lucky You! Make a nice marinara sauce
I love fresh garden tomatoes!

It sounds like a little bit of paradise where you live. Are the panthers large? I always wanted to see one (though not up close!)

3. I'm dicing and slicing and freezing!
Sauces and soups for the winter ... can't wait. Wish I'd planted some collard greens.

4. Maybe, maybe not.
How would I tell? Would they home in on my ham radio antennae array?

7. You live in the NC mountains?
Oh, you are sooooo lucky! The most beautiful place on earth. Well, except for the mountains of Tennessee.
