Name the greatest "New Baby," "New Parent," "Birth" songs of all time...
I'll start:

"Judy's Baby" by Box Set
"Shimmer" by Shawn Mullins
"Show Me" by The Pretenders
"Middle Of The Road" by The Pretenders

Anything else done hip, cool and with verve?

1. I might get laughed at
but Savage Garden's "I Knew I Loved You Before I Met You" is a really sweet song written the singer's baby

4. "Danny's Song" by Jim Messina
People smile and tell me I'm the lucky one
We've just begun, think I'm gonna have a son
He will be like she and me, free as a dove
Conceived in love, the sun is gonna shine above

And even though we ain't got money
I'm so in love with you, honey
Everything will bring a chain of love ...
And in the morning when I rise
Wipe a tear of joy from my eyes
And tell me everything is gonna be all right

This song came out in 1972, I believe, so I'm not sure I've got the lyrics down exactly. But I always loved this song, it's so peaceful and filled with optimism about the approaching birth of a new child between two people who are head over heels in love with one another.

6. A New Day Has Come
By Celine Dion

A new day, oh..oh..
A new day, oh..oh..
I was waiting for so long
For a miracle to come
Everyone told me to be strong
Hold on and don’t shed a tear

Through the darkness and good times
I knew I’d make it through
And the world thought I had it all
But I was waiting for you

Hush, now

I see a light in the sky
Oh, it’s almost blinding me
I can’t believe
I’ve been touched by an angel with love

Let the rain come down and wash away my tears
Let it fill my soul and drown my fears
Let it shatter the walls for a new sun

A new day has... come

Oh...

Where it was dark now there’s light
Where there was pain now there’s joy
Where there was weakness, I found my strength
All in the eyes of a boy

Hush, now

I see a light in the sky
Oh, it’s almost blinding me
I can’t believe
I’ve been touched by an angel with love

Let the rain come down and wash away my tears
Let it fill my soul and drown my fears
Let it shatter the walls for a new sun

A new day has...

Let the rain come down and wash away my tears
Let it fill my soul and drown my fears
Let it shatter the walls for a new sun

A new day has... come

Ohhh

Hush, now

I see a light in your eyes
All in the eyes of the boy

I can’t believe
I’ve been touched by an angel with love

I can’t believe
I’ve been touched by an angel with love

Hush, now
(ahh..ahh...
A new day...
Ahh..ahh..)
Hush, now
(ahh..ahh..
A new day...)

after a miscarriage myself, I await this "new day"

GEP

8. Live: Lightning Crashes
Live Lightning Crashes lyrics

Lightning crashes, a new mother cries
her placenta falls to the floor
the angel opens her eyes
the confusion sets in
before the doctor can even close the door
.
lightning crashes, an old mother dies
her intentions fall to the floor
the angel closes her eyes
the confusion that was hers
belongs now, to the baby down the hall
.
oh now feel it comin' back again
like a rollin' thunder chasing the wind
forces pullin' from the center of the earth again
I can feel it.
.
lightning crashes, a new mother cries
this moment she's been waiting for
the angel opens her eyes
pale blue colored iris,
presents the circle
and puts the glory out to hide, hide

May be not the sentiment you were looking for... Just always struck me as special.

13. Little Potato
it's really cute.

Written by Malcolm Dalglish, Oolitic Music, BMI, and recorded on Metamora, Sugar Hill Records, SH-CD 1131

You're my little potato, you're my little potato,
You're my little potato, they dug you up,
You come from underground!

The world is big, so big, so very big! To you, it's new, it's new to you!

You're my little potato, you're my little potato,
You're my little potato, they dug you up,
You come from underground!

Let's talk about root crops (they dug you),
And lamb chops (they chew on you),
And things to eat...like apples and cheese and 'nanas and cream,
Jellies and butter, it's late at night, I hope this little bottle helps you go to sleep!

They must have grown you wild, you make a grown man a child,
I’ll go and play in the mud to be with you my spud (potato).
When you came out looking red as a beet,
You had wrinkles on the bottoms of your feet!

Oh, you are so sweet potato!
You're my sweet potato, you're my sweet potato, dug you up!
You come from underground!

You smile, a smile, a little smile!
The world is small, so small, it's very small!

You're my little potato, you're my little potato, you're my little potato, they dug you up,
You come from underground!

You're my little potato, you're my little potato, you're my little potato!

oddly enough I once met the singer, as he was involved and I think married to now, a relative of a woman I lived with once.

and here is the link to the great local radio program that always played it!

26. Fuck yes!
The greatest birth song of all time.... and she does it from the father's point of view.

When KaTe's cool, she's really cool.

When my wife miscarried - a tragedy that knows no bounds - I listened to that song over and over. It helped me get through it and it helped me deal with my own grief and be there for my wife when she needed me more than she ever had.

Khash.

24. Box of Rain Grateful Dead
Box of Rain

Look out of any window, any morning, any evening, any day.
Maybe the sun is shining, birds are singing,
No rain is falling from a heavy sky.
What do you want me to do, to do for you to see you through?
For this is all a dream we dreamed one afternoon, long ago.

Walk out of any doorway, feel your way, feel your way like the day before.
Maybe you'll find direction,
Around some corner where it's been waiting to meet you.
What do you want me to do, to watch for you while you are sleeping?
The please don't be surprised when you find me dreaming too.

Look into any eyes you find by you, you can see clear to another day,
Maybe been seen before, through other eyes on other days while going home.
What do you want me to do, to do for you to see you through?
It's all a dream we dreamed one afternoon, long ago.

Walk into splintered sunlight,
Inch your way through dead dreams to another land.
Maybe you're tired and broken,
Your tongue is twisted with words half spoken and thoughts unclear

What do you want me to do, to do for you to see you through?
A box of rain will ease the pain, and love will see you through.

Just a box of rain, wind and water,
Sun and shower, wind and rain,
In and out the window like a moth before a flame.

And it's just a box of rain, I don't know who put it there,
Believe it if you need it, or leave it if you dare.

And it's just a box of rain, or a ribbon for tour hair;
Such a long long time to be gone, and a short time to be there.
