Ice pack?
When all else fails that usually gives me a little relief.

Hope you feel better.

5. Okay, here's my big guns:
When I get a migraine and nothing works, I go for this:

*Ice pack
*Turn down the AC to coolest setting
*Remove all constricting clothing
*take a xanax (only helpful if you have a prescription on hand, though)
*Turn off all the lights
*Hope for sleep and sweet relief

Probably not too helpful, but I empathize with you. Last week was one big headache for me.

7. Sounds good ...

I don't have Xanax, but I have something similar. I'll give it a try ... thanks.

If all else fails, I'll have to break out the heavy-duty pain killers and deal with effect (major ulcer pain) tomorrow.

4. Try washing your hair in very hot water
and massaging your neck. That will often do the trick if it's a tension headache.

If absolutely nothing helps, you should seek medical assistance. It could be any number of things, some of them dangerous.

8. I have a heat massager thingy, which I tried ... didn't help.
:-(

I suffer from chronic pain - this is "normal" for me, so I'm not concerned about my health ... I'm just angry that nothing has helped so far. I have some heavy duty pain killers, but my ulcer's been acting up and if I take the pills, I'll be sick for a couple of days. That's why I use them as an absolute last resort.

6. If nothing helps and its been going on for a while

you may want to consider a call to your doctor or other medical aid.

Assuming it's not a migraine or other previously experienced problem, a headache that doesn't yield to ordinary painkillers can be a preliminary sign of brain aneurysm.

Note this is an extreme possibility but if the symptoms repeat, it's probably worth following up on.

10. Thanks for the concern and the advice.
I appreciate it. :-)

Unfortunately, as I posted above, I suffer from chronic pain, so this is "normal" for me - it's just very frustrating that none of my usual pain relieving methods are working tonight. :-(

13. Noted, and you're very likely right

But if this particular site or type of pain is new and is not yielding to normal methods of pain control that are usually effective, you should discuss it with your physician so that s/he is aware of it and you do not assume a symptom away.
