Experts agree: the phone company SUCKS! |
|
it doesn't even matter what phone company it is-- chances are it SUCKS.
Okay, so i moved into this new place over a week ago. i called to get the phone switched on-- three-day wait. that was supposed to be done last friday.
so anyway, apparently they couldn't find the "phone box" in the laundry room of my apartment building to do the switch-- you know, that big, gray box on the wall with the letters "PHONE BOX" stenciled on it.
so i had to call and reschedule, and the soonest they could get here is today, "some time between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.". so i have to take a whole flipping day off, just to wait for some flunkie to flip a g-ddamn switch in the basement so i can get my freaking phone!!!
so i've been stuck using my cell phone-- not a cheap proposition. my cell bill will probably be about $200 this month.
DAMMIT, how freaking hard can it be to open a clearly-marked box and flip a switch? :grr:

1. Do you have Cricket where you live? |
|
I know it's nice to have a home phone; but for future reference (my Cricket costs $39 a a month and acts as my everywhere phone; it dosen't travel outside the city but we have a low-package other cell phone for that. Saves mucho money!!)

2. i've been living off my cell phone for the past few months |
|
normally i don't even carry it, but since my marriage broke up i've been living in three different places at once. things are getting toward normal now, and i just need a basic land line phone, because cellular reception in my building is so crappy.
I'll have to check out Cricket tho.... sounds interesting!

3. You need a better cell-phone plan. |
|
I pay $39.99 a month for 450 day minutes (with rollover) and 5,000 night/weekend minutes, as well as unlimited calling to other Cingular/ATT customers. (If you make the bulk of your calls in the evening, you can pay a little extra and have nights start at 7 instead of 9.) No long distance, no roaming.
I don't have a landline.

Makes cable-based broadband suddenly worth the money.
Just don't expect your land-line company to just cooperate with Vonage or whatever VoIP plan you get. We were supposed to have our number transferred over, but it never happened. Our land line just went dead one day. We had to go BACK to Vonage and get a new number anyway. Apart from that, we're deliriously happy with our new VoIP service.

6. I've got broadband cable |
|
that was a fairly painless hookup. i'm still having problems getting my home network and work laptop/VPN connection, but that's more on my end.
unfortunately we don't have VoIP yet here, but when it's available i'll probably jump on it.

5. I just went thru shit with mine |
|
I have my DSL through them and they "accidentally" turned it off. I placed call after call, and no one knew what was going on. They finally found their mistake and said the only way I can get it again is to sign back up. So now I have ot wait the week it takes for them to set me up and I have to use dial up right now. Just the other day alone the phone call to them was over an hour. For THEIR mistake. It's a big pain in the ass. Screw SBC.

7. I haven't had a land line in years |
|
I have 3 cell phones and for the use of all 3 it cost less than 100.00 a month. I was spendindg more than that on a land line while making no long distance calls. I don't think I'll ever go back to a land line again.
