i fell in love with a mama gorilla at the toledo zoo last summer. we had a very touching moment. actually made me cry. but...i'm a big dork. :)

26. Ha! that happened to me with the Gorillas at the National Zoo a few years

ago. To make a long story short, when I was a little girl there was this gorilla at the Milwaukee County Zoo named Samson. He was the largest gorilla in captivity and would put on some real shows for those who came to see him. I loved/feared him. He had a daughter named Mandara that I saw as a bitty baby at the Lincoln Park Zoo when I was about 12. Well, when I took the kids to the National Zoo...guess who was there? Mandara! All grown up with babies of her own. Sniffle...of course, the kids and MrG thought I was nuts to get so excited. :hi:

34. Gorillas are cool, but not very panda-esque

Saw one at the Dallas zoo once. He was leaning against the glass viewing window in a shady spot, and we were the only ones there. He watched us from about six inches of glass away. Just kept staring, looking for all the world like he was somberlyasking us to stop staring. Then he saw my youngest daughter running around and started following her with his eyes. Then another group of people came in and started pounding on the glass, and he left.

Once at Seaworld my youngest was watching a Baluga whale through the plateglass after a show. The Whale started swimming up to the glass and chattering at her. Finally it started coming up the the surface and spitting over the wall at her. He would spit at her, then swim back down to watch her through the glass, just hovering in the water at her height and chattering away, bobbing his head up and downn at her. He would chatter some more, then swim back up and spit at her, then swim back down and chatter. A whole crowd of people gathered around, watching this. The one time I don't have a camera...
