For parents. My daughter (the ever growing drama queen) acts like her world is ending because she has ten math problems to do for homework. Last night, I checked them, she had three wrong. I circled them and told her to correct them. She insisted that she was right and I was wrong (even though I used a calculator just to be sure...math was never my strong point). She made horrible noises of despair everytime I told her that her answer was still wrong.
Homework is punishment for parents.

She doesn't get to do anything else until she's done her homework. I swear, it's just more punishment for me.

Man I wish I only had ten math problems! For my math class I typically have 50-60 math problems I need to answer.

4. Well, she is only a fourth grader, and school just got started last week |
|
I know she had more than that every night last year...I think they're easing them in. It's still too much for the drama queen though!

I keep telling her that it's going to get worse. Of course, it's hard to convince her of that when her 6th grade sibling has barely had any homework so far.

I remember fourth grade homework. What kind of math is it?..long division? I was good in math up until about 6th grade then it started to get rockier.
I'm trying to think what other kind of homework we had in 4th grade, I remember we had spelling lists and we had to write out each word twice or three times. That was tedious, but maybe that's part of the reason I've been a pretty good speller.
Then I remember we had some other workbooks..an English workbook, etc.
Good luck to your daughter, she'll get over the drama queen stuff, it's a pre-teen thing! :)

9. Fourth would be division and multiplication...I think. |
|
I was good in math up until that point.
Now I'm terrible.

12. I'm so terrible at math.. |

that I've declared myself done! I'm going to take a computer science class to fulfill my undergrad requirement. I haven't taken a math class since summer of 10th grade. Math classes do a number on my GPA. x(

10. They're basically reviewing from last year |
|
She HATES borrowing, always had trouble with it, no matter what we did. So, when she came home with ten problems that all involved borrowing, it was ON.
She did learn long division last year, but it hasn't come up in homework yet this year.
No spelling lists yet, which is unusual, but I know it's coming.
She suffers from anxiety and takes meds, but that doesn't stop her from freaking out about every little thing. I wish I could agree that this will pass, but somehow, I just don't see it happening any time soon.

I've been dreading math for a loong time because I'm terrible at it. In fact it's kept me up at night because I know I need it to graduate. Outside of my math classes, I'm done with EVERY class I need for my generals. All I need to do now is start working on my major...and I can't do that until I finish math.
Which I think I'll never finish, because you need a C to advance to the next class and I'm terrible at math. :(

16. I was never good at math either |

So I do have sympathy. However, she seems to think that because it's hard, she should get a free pass. I don't think so little girl, sit your behind down and start writing!

Something about little mouths to feed. I was on the track of a professional student too, until they came along!

I had mine tied, then a few years later I had a hysterectomy. I got a boy and a girl, I'm done now.
