Vassar Clements (1928-2005)
"On August 16th 2005 at 8:25 am Nashville time, the angels in heaven stopped singing for a moment, as they heard the most beautiful music approaching from a distance - the high lonesome sound of Vassar Clements' fiddle."
RIP

1. I have never heard of Mr. Clements
But I felt sad reading his obituary. Are you a musician phiddle as in violin?

9. Yes, I do play phiddle as in violin.
Vassar Clements was one of the great fiddlers. He started playing with Bill Monroe and his Bluegrass Boys when he was 19, participated in the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band's pathbreaking "Will the Circle be Unbroken" in 1972, and then recorded the absolutely classic "Old and In the Way" in 1973 with Jerry Garcia, David Grisman and others.
3 other albums deserve mention: Once in a While, a jazz album with some of Miles' ex-cronies, Together at Last with Stephan Grapelli, and Grass Routes.
I'd urge you to get acquainted, it's terrific stuff.

8. Ah yes...Vassar Clements
Fine Bluegrass fiddler but also dabbled in other styles. He played with Garcia and the Dead, with Widespread Panic, String Cheese Incident, and I think, the Rolling Stones. A great musician. May he rest in peace.
