Pride and Prejudice (with Colin Firth) Great Series!
I have to say that was one of the best mini-series I ever saw based on a book. (Sadly it is one book I have not yet read but will..)

I thoroughly enjoyed the movie, the actors, the costumes and the surroundings...

Favorite moments...Darcy's first proposal of marriage which went something like.... "While it is utterly reprehensible that I be attracted to you ...Will you marry me?"...

as an aside...Colin Firth is HOT as Darcy...

The Bennett mother was hysterically funny...reminded me of Eric Idle in drag.. and Mr. Bennett's sarcastic manner of dealing with her was great....

I have always had a weakness for costume dramas and this one ranks up with the best of them...

1. It's one of the best Austen adaptations, as well as one of the most true
there was an equally faithful movie made of of "Persuasion" at about the same time. I saw in on PBS.

When the New Yorker reviewed the P&P mini-series, they said it should come with a flashing sign "NOT ONE WORD HAS BEEN OMITTED". Which is a good thing.

3. It was a real pleasure to watch it...
my new phrase for when my husband is bugging the hell out of me is to say,.....

"Oh Mr..XXXX you so vex me.."

7. Not strictly true, but very nearly.
As you know, a lot of the book is based on letters written to and fro, and of course that would be death on film. So it is more "action" oriented than the book, but it is VERY faithful on all plot points.

2. I love Love LOVE that series! (bought it on DVD)
I have read the book and it is REALLY well done.

The mini-series really does justice to Jane's carefully drawn characters.

It's a great story about family, friendship, romance and growing wiser.

And yes, Colin is HOT HOT HOT!!!

I just love that scene where they bump into each other on the grounds of Pemberly!

Watched it several times in fact. That sniveling Mr. Collins was just so hilarious and awful.

Have it on DVD and have watched it several times.

Yes, Colin Firth is a hottie! Woo-hoo!

BTW -- if you pick up the "Bridget Jones Edge of Reason" DVD in the extras there is an "interview" between Bridget and the actor Colin Firth. It is hysterical because she keeps asking him about P&P and the wet shirt scene and manages to ask some pretty personal and embarassing questions! He was a good sport to film it -- LOL

12. Oh, oh, oh! I love that series, too. But I am so miffed
I caught it through the first proposal on cable about a year ago and missed the last episode or two. I haven't seen it on any cable channel since. And I haven't had a chance to rent it.

It has been driving me crazy every time some channel like AMC runs all those crappy Bond movies yet they won't touch a classic like this.

I guess I'm just going to have to buy it.

And you are right - Colin Firth is HOT as Mr. Darcy.

I couldn't believe my luck when I found the DVD at one of my hometown pawn shops. That's were I buy most of my DVDs. Five for $20.00.

as Elizabeth Bennett! As Lady Catherine de Bourgh would say -- "I am most put out!"

I'll go see it but only to see Judy Dench play Lady Catherine.

26. As a Janeite I hate all adaptations
But this one was good. Colin Firth IS Darcy. Hot, arrogant, a total asshole, and a man deeply in love.

But... look at the actress who plays Eliza Bennett. Look at her eyes. They flash brillaintly with hope, desire, anger. The whole story is played out in her eyes....

So watch it again. Watch Eliza. Sure, we all wanted in Darcy's pants last Tuesday at the latest. But watch it again, and watch Elizabeth...

Khash, some hopeless Austenite guy.

She had so much wit and sparkle - you could totally see why Darcy would be attracted to her.

Darcy in P&P reminded me so much of Mr. Bleedingheart when we first met....a mysterious and arrogant man...full of himself...

33. P&P by BBC/A&E
is absolutely the best thing I've ever seen on television. It is perfectly cast and beautifully filmed. I asked for the cd's for a gift years from my kids until I finally got them a couple of years ago. My favorite gift of all time! Every time I'm home sick I watch them again. Everytime I'm home alone for 6 hrs or so I watch them again. In fact, I'm trying now to figure out how I can squeeze them in this weekend!

Someone mentioned Bridget Jones - actually the Bridget Jones "series" is based on P&P and the Mark Darcy character is not only based on "Mr. Darcy" in the novel but actually Colin Firth playing him in this adaptation!

36. Re: Bridget Jones
Yep. I think Firth was a good sport to do the BJ movies because he is probably sick and tired of being "Mr. Darcy" after 10 years and several other movies.

41. I have to say that as a red-blooded American heterosexual male:
I LOVED 'PRIDE AND PREJUDICE'! Great miniseries. I enjoy witty conversation, and the show is loaded with it. And every guy loves beautiful women with their jubblies hanging out. :7

I love to read, so I zipped through the book in nothing flat. My favorite line from the book:

"Mr. Collins apologized profusely, and continued to do so for fully a quarter of an hour."

Being a man, I don't get hot under the collar for the wet-shirt scene, but I love Darcy's behavior in the scene:

"Your family are well?"

"Quite well, thank you."

"And where are you staying?"

"In the village".

"Ohyesofcourse!...........and your family are well?"
