17. I forgot about Stand by Me, that is one of

my favorite movies ever. I guess it reminds me of my childhood since that is when I first watched it. It is so good though. But I also really liked The Shining. It scared the crap out of me the first time I watched it, plus I love Jack Nicholson.

One whole scene was lifted: the failed execution, even down to the reason of a dry sponge.

I love King's craft but he is a bit of "nicker" as the brits say.

28. The Shining

Maybe it isn't really fair to vote for Kubrick's version of The Shining because King despised it, as did many King fans and fans of the novel. However, Kubrick is famous for taking works and synthesizing them into his singular vision. I just find The Shining endlessly fascinating. I have probably seen it forty or fifty times and things about it still puzzle me to this day.

My second runner up would be De Palma's "Carrie"
