Brain-shattering hangovers SUCK!
This morniing I had a headache so bad I saw flashes of light! Is that a migraine? :hangover:

(Please note I ain't seeking medical advice here--this is a hangover related thread only. Also I know enough to look out for signs of retinal detachment and this isn't that)

The worst of it seems to be subsiding but day-um, that was a rough one! On the positive side at least I got to see a Minneapolis band with a talented guitarist for a change of pace.

1. does sound like a migraine
Alcohol is a known trigger for migraines.
Think of the headache as adverse therapy -- if you have enough of these really bad headaches, you give up drinking.

BTW, I find that I sleep a lot the night of a migraine, about 10 hours. Migraines wear you out. Make sure you can get the rest you need tonight.
I know, I sound like a mother.

4. Oh man, am I ever gonna sleep tonight!
I've been drinking a fair amount of water--although I am not gunning it down by any means!

I used to do this drill in my younger and wilder days, so I've got some good coping strategies--but wow, they still suck. I've been worthless ALL day.

At least I can hold down food--it's not to the level of :puke: ;)

3. Sometimes migraines do come with vision oddities
as you mentioned. But if this is hang over caused it could just be an extra bad one.

Drink lots of liquids (non alcohol, lol)as dehydration is the biggest culprit in hangovers. Try to rest if you can and try not to move quickly.

Cold towel on your neck may help. And aspirin if you are okay with it.

I'm not offering medical advise but I am a migraine sufferer and years ago I had my share of hang overs.

7. Dehydration will cause a migrane
Which could have provided those flashes of light....

And dehydration is a serious risk with hangovers! Drink plenty of electrolytes and water.

8. I just didn't want the thread locked
(as the rightfully do about serious medical issues-related threads)

I figured there were a few DUers who got migraines. I don't think I've had them before--but maybe I just didn't know what to look for.

Today was just a complete bust--lots o' slow movin' and rehydratin'!

Tommorrow should be a better day!

10. Are you guys always surprised by a hangover too?
At night when I'm up partying you can predict you'll be feeling rough in the morning--however when I wake-up the next morning the reality always hits me as a shock--"How could this have possibly happened to ME?!??!?!?"

For the record I haven't had one of these in MONTHS--and only a couple of times in the last decade or so. SOmetimes you've just gotta go for it!
