What's your favorite anime?
I'm a big Fushigi Yuugi fan, myself. (In case you couldn't tell, no da. ;) )

2. I was seriously hooked on Sailor Moon several years ago
Fortunately, I got over it before I got in trouble.

Others I've liked are Macross (and Macross Plus), Oh My Goddess, Marine Boy (now I'm dating myself), and anything by Miyazaki.

27. Well for one thing...
you sometimes don't know when something is real or imaginary. You don't know who the bad guy is, and everyone seems to be a headcase.

From ANN: Pop idol Mima quits her group in order to pursue an acting career. But not everyone is happy especially a crazed fan that stalks her. People around her are being murdered and Mima starts to lose her sanity.

From the official website: Mima was a pop idol, worshipped by the masses until fashion dictated otherwise. In order to salvage her career, she is advised to drop music and pursue acting. A soap opera role is offered but Mima’s character is less clean cut than desired. Regardless, she agrees and events take a turn for the worse.

She begins to feel reality slip, that her life is not her own. She discovers (imagines) her identical twin, a mirror image that hasn’t given up singing. Internet sites appear describing every intimate detail of her life and a figure stalks her from the shadows.

Her friends and associates are threatened (and killed) as Mima descends into a dangerous world of paranoid delusion. She fears for her life and must unravel fact from illusion in order to stay alive.

21. Also known as Furi Kuri or Fooly Cooly.
An amazing piece of work. The only anime I've ever seen that makes fun of its own manga. I couldn't tell you what's actually happening to save my life, but I can't help but watch it over and over.

20. I liked Giant Gorg
Edited on Thu Aug-18-05 07:17 PM by 4_Legs_Good
but I haven't watched the entire series in ages.

I really enjoyed Robotech when I was in High School. It still holds up fairly well and I give Carl Macek props for figuring out how to string 3 series together and try to make it look like one.

If Miyazaki counts as anime I'd say "Laputa" is my all time favorite, though.

23. Cowboy Bebop
At the time, the first anime I had ever seen that incorporated western feature film values from start to finish. As a result, it's not your traditional manga-based anime, by which I mean that it has very little of the "exploding head" displays of emotion or people with giant swords or superpowers. Within the sf motif, it's very realistic, and borrows heavily from film noir. And boy is it ever dark...

25. Master Mosquiton, Vampire Hunter D, Haunted Junction
Slayers,

Neon Genesis Evangelion until it got wierd at the end.

Haunted Junction and Slayers are hysterical, though.

but nothing...I mean nothing tops Myazaki.

But I think he is in a class by himself.

There are a bunch of them around the house since my daughter has been into this stuff since she was about 13; she just sold off a bunch of her Manga books and bought some new ones.

Mock away. I know it's old and a little primitive in the animation department, but the core five characterss (Lupin, Fujiko :loveya:, Goemon, Jigen and Zenigata are all such spot-on archetypes).
