Snoop Youth Football League
http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/n/a/2005/08/18/state/n164002D88.DTL

KO talked about this as a bad thing... but note: "He lowered fees for joining a team from $175 or more to $100, which covers the cost of cleats and pads. He also loosened residency requirements."

I dunno... seems like a cool thing for him to do. As a parent of a kid who played youth football, I'd appreciate the gesture of lowered fees, and probably some pretty cool events. I've seen favoritism and corruption in some of the 'established' youth leagues.

What are your thoughts?

3. But I'm sure it's for the name recognition of Snoop
If it's really just about helping kids play, he would fix up their ballfields and fund the leagues they have. Instead, he has to create a different league and undermine what's there. These kids are getting perks to play at age 12!

5. i agree to some degree
But...would they get the donations and involvement from the sponsors if Snoop hadn't started his own league with his name on it?

4. Snoop's a good guy
He played youth football right down the road in Long Beach when he was the same age as these kids - and the feedback from his coaching has been positive from kids and parents alike.

I am more dubious about his ads with a decrepit Lee Iacocca on the golf course than I am his youth football league. :-)
