ATTN: LA DUers!
I'm going to be in LA next week and I've got a transportation question for you. My friend just moved to Studio City, she doesn't have a car. I'll be in town for an interview, so won't have a car either...and I'm staying at the Biltmore (downtown, think Staples Center-ish). Is there any earthly way to use public transportation??

If not, it looks like I'm free Monday night...anyone want to grab a bite to eat??

1. Where's the interview?
I can't get you from point A to point B without knowing where B is.

3. I'm taking a cab to the interview
but I wanted to get from the Biltmore Hotel (downtown, 506 S. Grand Ave.) to Studio City (Ventura & Laurel Canyon-ish) on Monday evening to meet a friend for dinner.

2. Actually, you're in luck.
The subway (red line) goes from downtown through Hollywood and up to Universal City, which is about a mile from Studio City.

4. OOOH!
And is the subway safe for a 20-something female at about 10pm??

5. I don't know...
the subway was built after I moved.

Studio City/Universal City was safe... but the area around the Biltmore wasn't.

6. Probably...
It's pretty clean and safe. Just obey standard safety precautions.

In fact, the red line stops at Pershing Square, right across the street from the Biltmore.

Last train leaves around midnight.

9. If your at Staples Center take the RED line (L.A.'s not so Sub subway)
I think the Station is at 7th and Flower. The Biltmore staff will let you know. Take the Red to Universal City (Tourist Trap Alert), from there take one of several buses heading North/West to Studio City, which is not too far by car (not considering traffic mind you).

Here is a useful Public Transportation

http://www.mta.net/default.asp

The Biltmore is a cool Hotel as I recall. Years ago the former Semi-Mrs. Puerco-bellies and I stayed there on a long weekend. We did not want to face the Exodus traffic but wanted to get out of the house.

The Biltmore was only minutes away, but it was also like another world. Very cool old style, kinda Noir, in that China Town-the movie way. Me and the evil-who's-name-I-dare-not-mention were still in that vigorous "snuggling" stage and had a great time that weekend.

Olvera Street is just a Redline stop up, and China Town is right after. Both are very cool places to wonder around snacking and shopping.

11. The Blue line dives under for a minute.
The other lines I do not have much riding experience on. As subways go, L.A.'s are safe, clean, but not very extensive. Enjoy my home town, Hit one of the Beaches if you have time.
