God Damn AIRSHOW!!!!!
Edited on Fri Aug-19-05 11:17 AM by Sannum
At work, nothing was happening, so they just let us all go home instead of getting paid to surf the net.

I am home, and of course, there is a fucking fascist, noisy airshow on the lake! Which is RIGHT NEXT to my apartment! This is going on all weekend apparently, which ruins my weekend schedule of sleeping in and watching bad movies and ordering chinese food:grr:

1. Why is the airshow "facist"?
Lol. That's just a funny adjective.

5. Ahhhh.
I wondered, because all the airshows that I had been to had been performed mainly by local small plane pilots and the standard "blue angels" type troop as well. THere was a smell of military but nothing dictatorial.

Did they have f-16's and b-52's flying around or something?

17. Yes, all kinds of military hardware plus the Thunderbirds....
There usually is a full Marine "attack" on the Chicagoland lakefront to be enjoyed by a million cheering fans. Can you guess that I have never attended? Having to listen from the privacy of my home is bad enough.

After last year's show, the neighbor with a small baby wrote an angry letter to the local newspaper. I congratulated him on it.

3. I know air shows are noisy, but fascist?
Anyway, why not make the best of it and watch the show if you can see it from your apartment.

6. I believe I'll walk over to the lake at lunch.
I like airshows, and my office building is only a couple of blocks away.

Put on headphones and play some nice music to drown the sounds out.

Fascist military-industrial complex displays of WMDs and a waste of money, designed to seduce kids into the military and adults into thinking it's cool. Propaganda, and we pay for this shit, and less for veteran's health care every goddamned year.

11. Exactly
It is a waste of money so people will be seduced into thinking that war and military might is just the best thing our tax dollars could ever go towards.

The people flying the planes over my apartment building will probably be hauled over to Iraq in about a year to give their lives a lie. The kids watching will be seduced into thinking that it is cool to be in a war, and the idiotic masses will just love it because this is 'murka and everything is fine because gas has not reached 5.00 a gallon yet.

10. I'm sorry to hear it!
Airshow noise doesn't bother me at all. Nor do firetruck, police, or ambulance sirens.

Boom cars, though - THOSE piss me off. Or Salsa/Merengue music being played at concert volume by one's less-valuable-than-craack-spoons neighbors.

Sorry that you have to suffer through the planes! I know what it's like to be forced to endure sounds over endless hours that one does not want to endure. My sympathies!

16. I always pray for rain those days....

I live a bit farther north than you and the din here is so bad that my extremely deaf 93-year-old mother hears it.

Has always scared the bejesus out of me. These days, it makes me think of what shock-and-awe must have sounded like to the Iraqi people.

18. If I could afford it, I would just get out of town.
I have five framed prints on my dining room wall. Only one of them was still on the wall when I got home. Some things had even rattled off of my coffee table.

Let's continue to pray for rain.:). The whole damn building is shaking. Plus, the crowds are horrendous. It took half an hour for my bus to get from Water Tower Place to Wacker!

21. SO goddamned LOUD!
And I'm not on the lakefront -- but close enough to have it vibrate the building and terrorize the cats and give me a headache, anyway.

The one the year after 9/11 felt extra special.

22. I happen to enjoy air shows
Especially the ones with the vintage planes. I think it is more a show of technology than military might, although there are shows that are focused more on military planes.

I live near a small airport that holds an airshow every year. Yes they are noisy, but usually the planes do not start flying until around 11:00 AM, so it would not disturb my sleeping in.

It's a big-time military recruiting event.

:eyes:

Not a "pretend" Marine invasion this year. A "pretend" Army invasion.

28. I like airshows too. So do a lot of other people.
Doesn't mean you're fascist or anything else. Just means you like airplanes, which I have for as long as I can remember.

Besides, you're gonna live in the city (especially a large city like Chicago) and expect quiet?
