6. Did Gordon Lightfoot have something to do with SPLHCB?
Edited on Mon Nov-10-03 01:16 PM by mac56
Somehow I'm not remembering him in it.

On edit:

Oops - sorry - my bad - I just saw the note on the chart. Carry on..

13. Dylan & Lightfoot
Edited on Mon Nov-10-03 01:40 PM by mac56
Lightfoot wrote "Early Morning Rain" (which Dylan recorded on "Self Portrait"), and has been a friend of Dylan's over the years. He played with the Rolling Thunder Review in Toronto.

When Lightfoot won the Canadian Juno award for lifetime achievement, Dylan was the one who presented it to him. Legend has it that the Juno people had offered Lightfoot this award several times, but he said he'd only accept it if they got Dylan to present it.

edit: fixed typo

Edited on Mon Nov-10-03 01:12 PM by mac56
Especially after seeing Spielberg's big screen version from the late 60s. What a piece of tripe.

Add on edit: "Lost Horizon" stank amazingly, too.

24. I saw Finian's Rainbow as a stage play
when I was a kid and liked it.

There was one song in particular that was good but for the life of me I can't remember it. Possibly had "moon" in the title.

It was Coppola (in his first studio gig), not Speilberg. Lucas was assistant director, BTW.

Yeah, I'm talking about the Baz Lurhmann piece of shit. A lot of people love this movie. I loathe it. It's overrated, boring and sometimes downright annoying.

25. I really liked it, and I hate musicals
First movie I've seen in ages with decent, well-done, professional singing.

At first I hated the idea of pre-inventing modern tunes but if you think of it as kind of an alternate universe, it's kinda cute.

The "do the can, can, can" sequence is a classic quodlibet. The kids love this movie and everytime that sequence starts I have them crank it.

41. I agree
It's overrated, boring and sometimes downright annoying.

That about sums it up. I can understand its Oscar nom for costumes, but Best Picture?!! C'mon!

Like someone said, how come anachronistic songs are stupid in "A Knight's Tale", but brilliant here?!

Olivia Newton John as a Muse, with a cast of nobodies.

Also, you left off "Attack of the Killer Tomatoes", which was a musical, except no one remembers the music.

26. I strongly dislike "My Fair Lady"
The heavy cockney accent sends me up the wall. Half the songs could be dropped and it might be tolerable, starting with "Poor Professor Higgins".

And I worship Audrey Hepburn.

32. Ironic - she was knocked out of "Gigi"
The role she created on stage, and Leslie Caron replaced her in the movie version. A horrendous mistake. Then, she knocked Julie Andrews out of her Eliza Doolittle, in "My Fair Lady." A second huge mistake. Both movies would have been infinitely better with their original stage stars.

One of my favorite musicals. Wish they could have cast Julie Andrews, though. Stanley Holloway stole the show as Eliza's father.

38. Didn't like Chicago, but...
the musical numbers weren't too bad.

The choreography, however, was very sloppy. Especially considering it was the best Hollywood had to offer, and in an environment where retakes are a possibility.
