Jazz singer Peyroux goes missing on promo tour.
London -- U.S. jazz songstress Madeleine Peyroux is missing, her record company in London said yesterday, amid speculation that she has gone publicity-shy in the face of her newfound popularity.

"She has simply disappeared," a spokesman for Universal Classics said, after Peyroux -- one of the hottest stars of this summer's jazz scene -- failed to turn up for promotional duties.

"Universal have gone to great lengths to protect Madeleine from burnout through too much promotional work, but it would seem that Ms. Peyroux has had enough," it said, adding that it had hired a detective to look for her.

Careless Love, the second album in Georgia-born Peyroux's career, was expected to make the Top 10 album chart in Britain this weekend. AFP

2. her last record came out 9 years ago
and she disappeared for 7 years after that one came out...
i've met her a few times. she has always struck me as very fragile, and totally unprepared for the music business machinery. it's almost a shame that her music resonates with so many people - i think she would be happier if no one paid any attention to her. :(

7. I haven't reconnected the speakers to my computer yet.
I can't get to the back of my modem, it's in a roll-top computer desk. One of these days I'm going to drill pilot holes to guide my cut as I enlarge the access port the radio reception sucks, big time in these here mountains but I'll try our main stereo and see what I can pick-up ~ thanks, progmom ... but PLAY IT for the whole world - please!

3. i used to set up "promotional duties" for various artists...
the behind the scenes stuff can be contentious for many who only want to 'do their art', it can be a sadness to witness the aftermath

6. Oh my, I hope she is alright
she should leave word with someone if she does this on purpose, just so they know she's OK.
