5. cover your rig ~ zz top
If you been out messin' and actin' a fool
You best be confessin' hey, don't be cruel.
Just callin' attention you probably know
Don't hold on to nuthin', it's time to let go.
Lay baby I want 'cha, I'm hurtin' so big.
Take out some insurance, and cover your rig.
We talkin' resurrection to shred your head.
That certain possession you keep in yo' shed.
Don't wanna confuse you, muddy up yo' mind.
Let nothing abuse you or come from behind.
Say baby I want 'cha, I'm hurtin' so big.
Take out some insurance, and cover your rig.
If there's ever a question, take care of yourself.
Use your protection, be respecting yo'self.
Make no obligations, you can throw 'em to the wind.
Blind infatuations, the means to an end.
Say baby I want ya, I'm hurtin' so big
Take out some insurance, and cover your rig.

7. Except Zappa ...
He was very anti-drug, and demanded his musicians be the same.

Cheers

8. I got in an argument with a friend one time
My side was something to the effect the drugs enhance performance and creativity was bullshit, just a shortcut to what the brain already had. Now mind, neither of us do anything stronger than caffine, so we had no vested interest. He told me that someone had tried to copy some of Jimi Hendricks guitar playing--note by note, I don't know what, or which song, but Jimi was a speed freak, among other things. And it could NOT be replicated. Of course Jimi, Janis, Jim and Kurt all died at the age of 27, so that part sucks. I have this T shirt that says "Heroin kills Rock Stars Dead" in huge letters. The real fucked up ones can burn bright as the sun for a while.

9. Reminds me of an english teacher who said
"Just imagine how much better Poe would have written if he hadn't been an alcoholic." Utter bullshit. For some of us, the Muse doesn't come calling until we've clobbered our sensate mind into submission with substances.

10. Drugs kill creativity in the long haul. Sadly.
I wonder how much better a lot of our fave musicians and artists would have been if they hadn't been fucked up.

Except Zappa, of course, who didn't do drugs, and was one of perhaps THE most creative and amazing musician of the 20th century.

Drugs = creativity is a GIANT FUCKING LIE.

I can't imagine Barry Manilow and John Tesch being any better on crack than they are now.

13. The best evidence for drugs not creating interesting art
Is all the shitty art made by people who are massive druggies. With talent, drugs can add to the depth of an artist's experiences, but they don't provide anyone with talent.

14. You'll note that none of the poll options indicated something like
"People who think they are talented use drugs as a crutch, when they'd spit out crap either way"

:-)

16. I've studied the artistic careers..
... of many drug-affected artists, many of whom are still around.

Guess when their very best work was done?

I don't know why it is nor would I ever advocate drug use. But the evidence is so plain it simply cannot be refuted.
