Had a nice adventure today. We visited Fort Knox
(not that Fort Knox, this one: http://fortknox.maineguide.com/history.html ) We go there at least once per year because my great, great, great grandfather was the commanding officer there during the Civil War.

Unfortunately we picked a quiet weekend as far as activities go, because there was no encampment but the 20th Maine's reenactment group's Surgeon was there. Oddly enough, he's a Texan. :) Very nice guy. Mentioned during the course of explaining practices of the day that politicians liked to make up words.. much as they do now. I am pretty sure it was a jab at **. He, the doctor, even mentioned that he was a Repub. Almost sounded apologetic that he shared a home state and political party with ** (Or maybe I was just reading into that. *g*)

1. One can always hope
perhaps, being a surgeon, he's one of those old-fashioned country-club repubs. You know, the kind you don't see anymore.

2. I love Ft. Knox.
It is such a beautiful spot. I first went there with a group of friends after a camping trip and the park was a convenient place to stop for lunch on our way south. It was one of the Maine summer days that takes your breath away, too.
I'm envious, GPV!

3. Today we were dodging raindrops the size of pebbles. :^) We plan
to go back for the medieval fair. Last time we went they had a trebuchet that launched pumpkins a 1/4 mile. It was wicked to watch them skip along the surface of the water and explode! :P

6. Makes one want to get out and drive up the coast
I used to do that a lot. Alone and with friends.

7. Yeah. We went to a beach after we were done at the fort and did some
metal detecting. Came home with loads of beer bottle caps. (What the hey, makes the kids happy. *g*)

8. Hey, some rain in summer can't spoil a kid's adventure
The second time I was at Ft. Knox the fog was so thick it was impossible to see anything, and it was still a fun time.
I'll bet your kids fell into bed after the days adventures!

9. Nope. The little one keeps coming back out. :^P There is going to be
a new bridge from Verona to Prospect. It's going to be MUCH taller than the old one. Check it out: http://www.waldohancockbridge.com/waldo-county-bridge/index.php
