AWFUL people at baseball games. (rant) |
|
Tonight, it was the guy who screamed at the umpire every time he called a ball on the visitors, and the guy sitting behind us who decided to trash Southerners.
Oh - and the Southerner-trasher also had to tell the woman he was with what was happening if it wasn't a common play - like the ball getting loose on the third strike. "See, the reason the batter is running is because it was the third strike and the ball got away from the catcher. When that happens the catcher has to . . . ." :banghead: She had not asked.
It happened twice. He explained it both times.
I get the impression that some guys just have to show off their knowledge of the game. I don't understand why.
But fellas, please listen: we women who go to ball games know how the game is played. Unless it's a woman who's in lust with you, chances are she wouldn't go to a ball game unless she already enjoyed baseball. So it is completely unnecessary to tell anyone how the game is played when they do not ask you to do so. To explain a game to people who already know how it's played is condescending as hell, not to mention irritating in the extreme.
And for the people who scream at umpires, whether it's balls & strikes or close plays: the umpire is never going to change his call because you think he was wrong. All you're doing is pissing off the people around you and revealing what an incredible asshole you are.
Ahh . . . there now. I feel much better. I think that now I can sleep.

1. You don't have to be a woman to be totally annoyed by these people |
|
at the ball game. That's why when I use to go-I'd get a ticket for the bleachers so I could move away if I was sitting next to Mr. Cooperstown.

And I figured guys got upset at these know-it-alls, too.... It's just that I've never seen a Miss Cooperstown, and I've never seen one of these guys explain plays to another guy. But yeah - everyone around hears them. :eyes:
Heh. Mr. Cooperstown. :7

I used to go to about 25 games a year....and I would often drag non-baseball-fan friends with me. I guess I played the part of Ms Cooperstown. My sincerest apologies to anyone who might have been seated near me. :(

I am relatively sure you were not pompous and condescending when you were informing your seatmates.

18. Bleachers are the most fun, too |
|
devoted fans
I miss the cheap seats in the Dome. They have nothing like it in Minute Maid. You used to be able to sit in the outfield for like $5-7 - and it was always great fun.
Now, if you want a cheap seat you have to sit so far up you can't see a thing. Might as well watch it on TV.

A bunch of guys playing with their balls. Who gives a fuck? If I'm not in the game, it's of no interest.

12. I expect decent behavior. Because it's outdoors doesn't mean it's |
|
okay to act like a drunken slob (even if sober). It seems something about the outdoors just leads some folks to be flaming fucking assholes. I swear, it's as if these people we've been surrounded by at ball games this year feel as if it's their divine right to spout off about anything -- and loudly -- just because they're outside.
Assholes! :banghead:

10. Sorry to hear your enjoyment was ruined by that asshat |
|
I was at the Twins game tonight, the only thing that wrecked my enjoyment was a Richie Sexson grand slam in the top of the 10th inning.
We had 4 frat boy types sitting next to us, getting up every inning to go get beer and release beer. Kind of annoying, but at least they waited until there were breaks in the action.
One of the frat boys, in the 9th inning came back with a lemonade for our daughter, he said he felt so bad for disrupting us the whole night...I was really surprised...:D

When the "baseball/football/hockey expert" tried to "explain" a play or whatever and it's WRONG. And the girl just sits there rolling her eyes.

17. Have you ever had one of those jerks who gets it all wrong |
|
explains the game, but doesn't understand it himself.
Doesn't know the teams, but pretends that he does?
You may have something about the outdoors thing, I've noticed that the fans are ruder at Minute Maid than they were at the Dome.
More drunkenness, louder, fighting...
I'm not going as often since they moved. Why pay a fortune to sweat and be annoyed?
And then when McLane stupidly claimed the 'Stros were Republicans, I thought well, hell let 'em draw in the Repub dollars. I'll keep mine in my wallet. It's not like I'm ever going to see them in the World Series, anyway.
