Oddly enough, *I* have a dog problem.
Well, it's more of a problem with my girlfriend's sister, who doesn't take care of her dog.

The pup has shown up at my house three of the last 5 days, when she's left it alone and it's gone a-wanderin'. Most remarkable, as she lives nearly 10 miles away down complicated county roads.

She doesn't seem to care that the dog -- which she has taken no time with -- howls outside until I come let him in, pees in the house, and truly needs a bath and brush. To say nothing of the fact that he hasn't had any shots and is jeopardizing my dogs' health.

Plus he always shows up right after I've cleaned the place. :eyes:

I've told her to deal, but she hasn't. Now I called her at work today and told her he was here and I was put out -- can't even put him in the kennel with the rest, as last time my neighbor told me he howled for two hours straight.

I don't want to turn this dog out into the street; for one thing, it's not his fault. For another, he'll just sit outside and howl. And I have to watch him the whole time because he also chews on crap.

Now it's nearly 10, and I know she got off work five minutes away at 9, and I'm increasingly pissed off.

What to do? She's not responding to me being mildly irritated or even grossly mad at her. What to do?

Start raising the dog.
Unless you can do the right thing, which is turn in the sister to whatever authority you have.

The dog is suffering.

1. You are a gem and a jewel
I don't know many people who would put up with those circumstances. Sounds like a job for animal control. For the dog's safety, it needs to find someone that will take care of it.

4. I think you should give her a warning
That the next time the dog shows up at your house, you are going to call the authorities and she will more than likely be cited for a variety of things. Perhaps that will cause her to be more responsible, but if not, be sure to follow through with what you said you would do.

5. No, probably not....
She obviously does not give a damn about the dog. If you call the authorities she will just likely get angry and take it out on the dog. If I were in your situation, I would just take the dog, and either keep it, or find a good home for the dog. By the way, I was in a similar situation that you describe and have had the dog now for two years. I despise people that get pets and don't take care of them.
