News about 5th gen. Democrat.....
John was complaining earlier yesterday about having a pain in his chest that went through to his back bone. He thought it might be a pinched nerve. so he sat around until midnight and finally decided to go to the E.R. Low and behold he has had a mild heart attack. He will be going into surgery sometime this morning to have a new stint put in.

Oh, by the way, I am Polly his SO. I just thought those who know him, might want to keep him in your prayers. I will be back sometime this afternoon to give you all an update.

Polly

7. Thanks....
What is really wierd is that in 1999 when he had his 1st heart attack, the Dr. told him that the stint would last 6 to 8 years. John told me tonight that this heart attack came 1 week shy of 6 years later. I guess those doctors wern't kidding.

Good lord! I am so sorry to hear he's ailing! Those cardiac guys are mighty good at what they do-- they'll probably have John up and running around quite soon. I doubt it will be too long before he's pestering you, Polly...

Tell him chin up, and that Royal contingent sends love and healing energy to him and to you as his caregiver.

Laura

FWIW, I spent a large part of April and May in the hospital with my dad with his heart problems. He's doing better now. Part of the reason I know John will be ok is because I know how much they have helped my Dad!

31. Hi Laura....
I must admit that his having another heart attack, minor or other wise, has been on my mind for about 6 months now. He has been complaining of pain in his back, between his back bones. He was supposed to have his procedure this morning at 9 A.M. I woke up at 11 after having about 3 hours of sleep. I was up set because the hospital had forgotten to call me. Upon arrival at the hospital, They told me he wasn't going to have it done until Tuesday Morning. His first words to me were "Well I guess Mike and I were smart to go see the Tigers on Saturday huh." They were planning on going this coming Tuesday.

Well I am waiting for Mike to come and pick me up to go and fuck with John so I will get back with y'all around 9 or 9:30. Later

Polly

43. Hello once again DUers
Bulletin.....John went for his procedure at 7:30 this morning. He was back in his room at 8:31...The Dr. came to talk to me when he was done with John. He told me that John needs to eat healthier. He needs to exercise more. And he needs to stay on his meds. And most importantly, he needs to stop smoking!!!!

The actual insertion of the new stent went very well. The Dr. showed me the pictures of John's heart...He said there are 30 or so other places where blockages are begining to form. I guess he told John that he has maybe 10 years if he doesn't follow the instructions.

John told me to tell you he is depressed...and that he is also a fatalist. The Dr. said he was going to keep John there till tomarrow or possibly thursday. John was not happy with that news, and said as soon as they pull the stitches out, he is getting dressed and coming home.

Well that is the update so far. I am going to catch a nap and head back up to the hospital...You will hear from me...or perhaps John if he really does get dressed and come home later.

Polly

51. Thanks for the update, Polly.
Glad to hear the surgery went well, but it sounds like John needs to straighten up and fly right from here on out...

John isn't overweight at all, and I can't imagine that ever being an issue for him if I'm being honest about it. I think the meds are probably gonna be crucial for him and for his continued good health.

I dunno if you have the cash for it or not, but get him started on Co-Q10 as soon as possible. It is in the vitamin section at the stores, and it is used a LOT overseas to treat heart issues (Japan uses it frequently to treat CHF, BTW). He's gonna need some time to heal up after this heart attack, and some nutritional support might help.

Did the VA drug program help him out at all? IF it didn't, check with this group and see if he qualifies for some help with drug costs:

https://www.pparx.org/Intro.php

Spank him if he won't behave, and YOU need to get some rest. You can't do him any good if you are at the brink of collapse too!

54. Goooooooood Morning DU.....
Hi....I am spiffing up the house for John's return home. He is supposed to come home today, but ya just never know. It has been really quiet around here with him not here.

I am fairly sure that the next report from 5th Gen. Democrat will actually be from the man, himself.

I want to thank all of you for your prayers and support for John and for me. I want you all to know that when John started to feel discouraged, I would tell him about everyone who was rooting for him. It always brought a smile to his face. Much love to ALL of you!!!

56. Quitting the smoking can be hard,

Best wishes from just to the north of you. Thanks Polly, for the updates. Hang in there John, my thoughts and prayers are with ya...

Just take the no smoking one day at a time, one urge at a time...and don't think just one won't hurt. That one smoke is how a lot of us started up again. After three attempts, I learned that...and now its been over a decade without them.
