Any TV tech gurus here?

Watching cable TV Saturday and it turned itself off.
Black screen. No snow picture, no static, just off like I had turned it off.
I turned it back on and it turned itself off. Ad infinitum. You can even hear the normal little click when it goes off.

Now, this might be coincidence, but it seems that the longer you leave it off, the longer it'll run when you turn it back on.

I thought it might be a stuck sleep button and let it "rest" for a day, then turned it on and cycled through to "sleep function off". It still turns itself off.

Time for a new set?

1. Power supply is overheating
shut it off, leave it off, take it in for repair

3. I guess we're talking INTERNAL power supply?
What would cause it to overheat? Dust? I might try sucking it out with the vac.

5. I used to fix TV's for a living and sure sounds like ...
....a power supply problem.

My advice: If it's a fairly new set and was expensive when you bought it (450.00+) you might be able to get it fixed with getting the "Shaft"

If it's not fairly new.....don't waste your time...junk it.
You can get some pretty nice sets nowadays for about 300.00....

One last thing: try to get a 3 comb filter....I won't go into why
but your eyes will thank you. :)

6. "High Voltage Shutdown"
It's a power supply problem, and I agree with everyone else. Put it out to pasture and buy a new one.
It's repairable, but it would be about $50 parts and maybe $180 labour.
