Mysterious Fish Caught Off Damariscove
Mysterious Fish Caught Off Damariscove

Daniel Fayen

It came from the deep.
"Its head and face resembled an alligator," said East Boothbay lobsterman Ralph Carter. "It looked to have armored plate over its blue eyes with orange colored cheeks, a body like a snake that felt like a dogfish and had big fins that looked like feet with toenails underneath."

Carter has pulled some unusual things from his traps but nothing like this.

On Saturday, August 12, Carter was aboard his lobster boat Victoria pulling traps on the east side of Damariscove Island when, lo and behold, he caught sight of a prehistoric-looking foot-long animal in one of his traps.

The inquisitive Carter immediately picked up his VHF radio to see if anyone could identify it.

Nobody could.

1. I know that there are tons of things out there we
have yet to discover. That is certainly interesting. I would have loved a pic, though.

2. Here's a link to the pix. I hate it when stories like this don't include
pix. (Talking about the web news story) I had to go to another web site.

5. How in the world did he get "face like an alligator's" out of *that*?
Not seeing any such resemblance.
